Staff Accountant

POSITION PURPOSE:The Staff Accountantis responsible for a range of accounting activities relating to the general ledger, sales, and reporting. This position assists in ensuring accounting transactions are executed in accordance with established standards of internal control and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). This position possesses and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures to the completion of accounting assignments. The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the Accounting team in achieving the mission, vision and goals of the organization. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:Financial Reporting (20%) Assist financial analyst with financial presentations and analytical support. Create reports for management, government agencies, internal and external auditors, etc. as required. Profitability Analysis reporting. General Ledger Administration (20%) Assist in reviewing General Ledger accounts / financial statements: identify/research/resolve any unusual balances Prepares reconciliations for assigned accounts. SAP sales/GL report querying. Cost center reporting. Responsible for loading and reconciling daily bank statements into SAP. Audit Administration (10%) Assist in annual external audit (domestic and international). Assists in the prepare the annual audit report and related disclosures. Completes surveys for government agencies, internal and external auditors, etc. as required. Accounting Administration (40%) Act as a backup for accounting staff to ensure proper staffing needs are met and to enable achievement of staff department goals. Manages the accounting process for P–Card and Concur. Manage the processing of daily invoicing for all LLC customers. Assists in the processing of freight invoices for all export and some domestic shipments. Track all rebates/royalties/commissions payments and related accruals. Review new vendor setup/changes and ensure compliance with policies. Company Mission Vision Values Leadership (10%) Accountable for contributing to NatureWorks mission, vision, and values. QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience Required: Bachelors degree a from four–year college or university in Accounting. 1–3 years accounting experience. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word); advanced Excel skills; experience with formulas, pivot tables, etc. SAP experience preferred Other (knowledge, skills and abilities): Good interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills to be applied with internal staff and external parties. Ability to work independently and as a team under pressure and adaptable to change. Working knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP, IFRS, etc.) Ability to analyze data and assist in preparing reports for the management team. Ability to develop and maintain customer relationships, understand our business and our customer's business, demonstrate intelligent flexibility and business judgment. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position does not qualify for work authorization or Visa sponsorship. This position works in an office environment. Regular business hours; some after–hours work may be required on evenings and weekends. Requires use of office equipment such as computers, fax machines, telephones, and copiers. Required sitting and computer–related activities for extended periods of time. Ability to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds; will follow Company safety and ergonomic guidelines to avoid injury.
