We want your ideas

We encourage fresh thinking, valuing inputs great and small. Whether the idea is brilliant, mad or downright obvious, we’ll always be interested in your insight. In fact, it's what we'll expect from you too. Here’s a snapshot of what’s happening right now.

Our new current account system has been developed to help save time in our customers day. It's an end-to-end online current account opening service. It lets customers set up accounts in real time from wherever they are. We're the only bank in Ireland to offer this service, and the tool represents our ability to listen to customers and develop technology to meet their needs. It's really rewarding to play a role in bringing innovation to the heart of how we continuously improve our service.

The innovation function allows me to focus my energies on my creativity. It allows me to work on one of a kind projects that I love. The Startup Gathering 2015 was sponsored by Bank of Ireland this year. The event is a showcase of Ireland's startup sector's abilities on the world stage. 410 events were attended by 15,000 people, making it one of the largest startup events globally. As lead Project Director I had the chance to engage the public, using our teams expertise to create something impactful and beautiful.

Setting up workbenches has let me see exactly how business is changing in Ireland, and enabling this innovation is something I’m truly passionate about. In early 2015, Bank of Ireland launched workbenches; state of the art facilities for Irish and international startups looking to create their businesses. Housed in Dublin and Galway, they have become the base-of-choice for startups looking for something different. Within ten months the workbenches welcomed over 10,000 startups and eco-system citizens and hosted over 300 events.

Be At Your Best is a programme we built internally to encourage colleagues to develop agile ways of thinking about our minds, bodies and careers. One initiative saw Karl Henry designing a programme that got us off the couch and running a five kilometre run in just a few weeks. 2015 saw 1300 colleagues from the UK and Ireland running the length and breadth of the country. I love not only seeing everyone achieve their own goals, but knowing that the whole organisation have come together to support each other.

Within five months of joining the Bank of Ireland Innovation team, I helped 'StartLab' get up and running. The program is an incubator for tech startups. Successful applicants are supported with top class speakers, mentors and facilities for six months to help grow their companies. We've also brought the global 'Startup Next' programme to Ireland twice in 2015. That initiative gave 12 startups the building blocks to help them pitch for funding. I'm really looking forward to seeing how we can help people in this space flourish, it's a fascinating sector to see evolve and grow.

This year I accomplished something well outside my day-today role as a manager. With a small team I planned a major concert called 'Be Our Inspiration'. The concert was a showcase of our colleagues artistic talents, as we followed their journey throughout the year. The concert proved what we could achieve when we all lent a hand. Our final show in the Helix played to a crowd of 1600 and after a year of fundraising, we raised €100,000 for Barnardos. It was a long road, and a real testament to our ability to come together as a community and create something truly special.
