VAT Consultant

We are currently looking for a VAT Consultant to join our Indirect Tax team in Birmingham. This is a brand-new role that has been put in place to support more senior members of the team in providing VAT compliance to existing clients. The ideal candidate will come from an accounting background and have prior VAT experience. We need someone who is driven and eager to expand their VAT knowledge. Our primary offices are in Birmingham, Burton on Trent, Derby, Lichfield, Rugeley and Stoke on Trent. Our services include accountancy,

audit, business recovery, forensic accounting, insolvency, corporate finance and tax advice. Responsibilities: Carry out visits to client's premises to extract necessary information to prepare VAT returns for review by VAT manager Assistance with VAT reconciliations to support our audit team during year end audit Assist in preparation of Intrastat and EC Sales List reporting Attendance at client meetings Assistance with ad-hoc internal and external client queries To attend VAT health checks and inspections with VAT Manager, providing follow up support Research HMRC, Tolleys, other accountancy firms and professional bodies websites and other published material for relevant VAT issues and developments, i.e. case law, legislative changes, HMRC briefs and report findings to VAT Manager and VAT Partner Assistance with internal procedures including engagement letters and billing requirements VAT return preparation Requirements: Driven Working towards or qualified in the following - AAT / ATT / ACA / ACCA Strong basic accounting knowledge An interest in VAT Advanced on Excel Focussed Positive attitude Reliable In return... 25 days annual leave (plus normal statutory bank holidays) Study Support Buying and selling annual leave Cycle to work scheme Payment of professional subscriptions Regular reviews and training Smart working hours Group staff pension scheme Death in service of 4 times salary Volunteer days Refer a friend / client Scheme Wellbeing refreshments Optional health / dental Bespoke Dains portal to include discount for gym membership, car/household insurance, travel, retail, going out etc Quarterly drinks events Summer / Christmas social
