Finance Operational Risk Management Global Lead, 18-Month Maternity Leave Cover Contract

This is an 18-month maternity leave cover contract in our Finance Operational Risk Management team, within our Financial Management Group (FMG) Division. The role will commence in early December.

As a Director reporting to the global Financial Management Group Operational Risk Management team lead, you will form part of a central function responsible for providing support to the CFO in managing and monitoring Macquarie's operational risk framework across Finance and oversight of Finance's operations globally. Working in a small and collegiate team, you will work alongside stakeholders in different teams as well as senior stakeholders across the business as a subject matter expert on operational risk, providing ad-hoc advice to finance staff regarding operational risk best practices, interpretation and application of policies.

Your key responsibilities in this role will include the following:
  • ownership of the Finance Control Framework (FCF)
  • manage the global Control Assurance reviews across high risk areas of Finance
  • manage the Sydney-based Finance Operational Risk Management team (3 Senior Managers, 1 Manager)
  • analyse trends arising from operational issues to identify areas of concern for Finance, through reporting tools such as PowerBI
  • review operational incidents to prevent recurrence
  • provide operational risk advice to key Finance initiatives ensuring that processes are being designed effectively with sufficient and appropriate controls
  • provide ad hoc advice to finance staff regarding operational risk best practices, interpretation and application of Group and Divisional policies to be applied to business as usual activities
  • timely escalation of operational risks, concerns and issues to local and global stakeholders, as required
  • assessment and monitoring the design and operation of Finance Control Operating Standards, which provide a framework for the consistent application of the FCF across the organisation
  • leading the half yearly Finance Risk and Control Self-Assessment
  • supporting the Regional FORM teams across the globe (Asia, EMEA and Americas) as the part of the head-office team

You will be a strong performer and have the drive to find and deliver on opportunities to improve the business. In addition, you will have the innate ability to interpret, analyse and explain data to a broad range of stakeholders.

You will also have the following work experience and qualifications including:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or similar
  • 10+ years' experience, chartered accountant preferred
  • a strong understanding of finance control environment via external/internal audit
  • experience in IT or systems related audit, operational risk or financial control roles
  • experience is User Developed Applications such as PowerBI and Alteryx
  • energized by the opportunity to build relationships and collaborate across the business and globe
  • Focus on qualitative improvements to work / outcomes
  • Have a curious nature to gain a deep understanding of the businesses supported and to assist in the identification of risk areas.
