The purpose of this role is to undertake quantitative analysis on investment strategies and processes in relation to the portfolios managed by the team. The role also seeks to manage risk systems for the management of the portfolios and to assist the team in interpreting risk analytics.

The CFS Investments team is responsible for:
- The construction and evolution of the Multi Manager, Multi-Index, Lifestage and Index portfolios.
- Analysing and reviewing investment managers with the purpose of appointing (and replacing) investment managers to manage allocations within the portfolios.
- Assessing advice and research from our investment consultant and other sources for the purpose of deeper understanding of investment issues and investment manager capabilities in evolving our investment capabilities and offerings.
We do this through these key activities:
- Undertake regular research, reviews and analysis of current and potential investment managers.
- Analyse, research and investigate factors influencing investment markets.
- Assist in the preparation and presentation of appropriate manager and portfolio recommendations for consideration by the Investment Review Group.
- Undertake analysis of the return and risk characteristics of the portfolios managed by the Investments team.
- Contribution to development and implementation of risk control, risk monitoring and performance analysis for the portfolios.
- Manage appropriate risk systems for the management of the portfolios.
- Assist the team in interpreting risk analytics.
- Participation in the Monthly Investment Review Group meetings.
- Engagement with the investment consultant around investment manager selection and portfolio reviews.
- Involvement in relationships with internal stakeholders such as distribution and marketing to ensure that the portfolios are represented to the retail distribution market as strong investment solutions for our clients.
- Involvement in relationships with external stakeholders such as investment managers, consultants and investment banks, representing Colonial First State in a professional capacity, in order to identify relevant information and research applicable to the management of portfolios.
- Presenting to Research houses and the Advice Dealership Research teams on the Colonial First State investment process, the Investments team and the portfolios.
We’re interested in hearing from people who have:
- Strong understanding of investment markets and financial instruments.
- Good understanding of wholesale and retail investment products.
- Understanding of investment processes and philosophies is preferred.
- Understanding of performance measurement and risk analysis.
- Excellent quantitative and qualitative skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to contribute to the development of investment ideas and processes.
- Tertiary qualifications with an emphasis on analytical training are preferred.
- Inquisitive, lateral thinker with a desire to challenge ideas.
- Capable of working within tight deadlines.
- Finsia, FIAA, CFA or similar post graduate qualifications are beneficial.
