Within Enterprise Services, the Controls Office consists of three key centres of excellence designed to support Enterprise Services pillars of Safe, Sound, Secure; Agility; and Performance. These teams provide non-financial risk advice and controls assurance to Enterprise Services through:

  • Implementing the risk management framework aligned to ES’ Risk Appetite and Risk Management Strategy.
  • Assisting the business to achieve compliance with Group, policy, framework, legislative and regulatory requirements.
  • Acting as a Trusted Advisor thereby ensuring the business understands and is able to apply risk and compliance management strategies.
  • Supporting with issue and incident management.
  • Providing risk advisory support on key strategic initiatives and programs of change impacting the business.
  • Developing and managing key stakeholder relationships.

Within Enterprise Services, the Institutional and Business Banking Technology ES Controls Office team supports domestic Institutional Banking and Markets and Business and Private Banking businesses, together with international Institutional Banking and Markets branches in the delivery of their outcomes within an effective risk culture. We work closely with the business to deliver insights to enable effective decision making and provide assurance over controls.

Do work that matters:

The Executive Manager of Institutional and Business Banking ES will lead the team accountable for the strengthening, embedding and ongoing improvement of the risk and control environment supporting IB&M and B&PB businesses and international branches. You will be part of a dynamic and exciting team focused on delivering a high-quality risk management service for Enterprise Services Business Units.

This role will work closely with Platform owners across ES and the business to strengthen and drive effective Technology Risk Management and assist with uplifting controls and risk culture.

This role will also lead the execution of strategic initiatives within ES Controls Office to improve team effectiveness and performance, drive capability uplift activity and exemplify a strong and proactive risk culture.

You will act as a trusted advisor to executive management in ES, regarding strategic planning, emerging risks and risk maturity as it aligns to the financial services sector and play a key role in ensuring risk behaviours, processes and ongoing management and prevention become part of the ways of working across all of Enterprise Services.

On any given day you will:

  • Together with the ES Compliance team, manage technology compliance risk for IB&M and B&PB businesses and international branches.
  • Undertake diagnostic deep dives on the risk and control environment in the portfolio identifying and implementing systemised control improvements where possible
  • Drive a strong, proactive risk and controls culture across our business stakeholders
  • Maintain strong professional expertise in risk management issues and approaches
  • Gather and analyse risk reports (including KRIs) and data to understand risks (working with relevant support areas as appropriate) and identify emerging trends
  • Work with value-chain stakeholders to ensure end-to-end oversight of the risk and control environment
  • Maintaining oversight of co-located Risk specialists to ensure visibility of BAU change management and execution of key deliverables
  • Identify and initiate actions to remediate risks and to strengthen controls, including managing remediation of risk issues identified through audits and other external processes
  • Collaborate with line management executives and with other stakeholders to ensure active support and satisfaction.
  • Ensure effective design of controls for all new and changing processes, and work with the change management team to understand impacts of all changes to the platform
  • Understand the evolution of key risks and controls and working with the other Line 1 Controls Office teams to drive consistency

We're interested in hearing from people who possess a combination of the below

  • An Advanced understanding and knowledge of the risk and control environment and framework with proven experience with operational and compliance risks
  • Product knowledge: including but not limited to Traded Markets specialised knowledge & experience, Lending product experience, strong process knowledge experience
  • Institutional banking experience such as equities and global markets
  • Experience and awareness of international technology compliance obligations and risk management
  • Ability to lead, direct and manage a large and varied stakeholder group at all levels of seniority across Business Units outside immediate area and influence change
  • Advanced understanding and implementation of Risk Management Frameworks, Controls and New Ways of Working
  • Expert understanding of risk management frameworks and relevant certifications e.g. Basel II, GS007, AS3402, COBIT, ISO2700x)
  • Ability to analyse trends, identify critical threats and opportunities, diagnose problems and issues and recommend appropriate actions
  • Have a passion for technology and technology risk, remaining up to date on the latest emerging industry
