The HDS Governance Analyst operates as part of the team responsible for governance over finance master data in the Global Financial Template (GFT), Americas Financial Template (AFT) and BP's core consolidation and data warehouse for Finance (FBW). They provide critical assurance that any requests received for new data creation are in compliance with the data standards and practices for finance master data. All integrity checks and approvals must be completed in advance of any data creation occurring. These validation and master data maintenance steps apply to the FBW solution as well as the GFT and AFT SAP transactional systems. These controls over the Harmonised Data Set (HDS) and Finance Data Structures (FDS) master data are the foundation to ensuring that financial data is accurately reported to BP Group Accounts, Complex Local Statutory Reporters, Group Tax, and the Segment MI teams. In addition, the FBW Solution and the GFT continue to be deployed to new users around the world on an almost continual basis. Validation and maintenance activities, therefore, cover both Production users and Deployment projects. This role requires an advanced understanding of the HDS and the AFT and GFT FDS, SAP transactions for master data maintenance, an appreciation of the GFT SAP implementation and knowledge of the inter-relationship between the FBW and GFT data elements and tables. An understanding of source system/business transactional posting is beneficial in supporting production users and the close process analysts during month end reporting.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Build up an understanding of Harmonised Data Set & Financial Data Structures and associated mapping tables to act as a Centre of Expertise for finance master data
  • MI mapping tables used to assign MI codes to SAP account assignments and financial data structures
  • Mapping tools used for the conversion of data from legacy systems into GFT data structures
  • Participate in reviewing and prioritising incoming master data requests on an daily basis to ensure the effective and efficient turnaround of requests, including the filtering and escalation of those requests that do not comply with the standards and practices
  • Group Accounts (GRA), Group Financial Outlook (GFO), Statutory and Segment MI reporting requirements
  • Support non GFT countries/businesses migrating to FBW with the creation of master data, data mapping and resolving mapping issues
  • Review master data requests from project deployment teams (such as GSD) and new SAP/FBW business users on an on-going basis
  • Review and approval of updates to Financial Data Structures (FDS) and associated mapping tables
  • Ensure global master data governance policies are adhered in order to maintain master data integrity so that it is fit for purpose and remains truly globally and generic in nature
  • Maintain operational and global master data structures in SAP on an on-going basis
  • Maintain key local master data for deployments e.g. profit and cost centres
  • Provision of business support at key periods (e.g. month end) to enable timely reporting
  • Build up a working relationship with the super user network and ensure they fully understand the Data Management change request process
  • Continuous education to customers about proper data usage, attributes, Template principles & processes.
  • Monitoring to prevent unauthorised changes to global master data
  • Ensure all master data requests are submitted on the correct request forms and that the request process has been followed
  • Maintain the MDG request forms and associated documentation such as the MDG process presentation pack and user guides
  • Ensure global master data governance policies are adhered in order to maintain its integrity to ensure it is fit for purpose and remains truly global
  • Promote user education on SAP/GFT/AFT/FBW Financial Data Structures and Governance
Requirements:
Essential Education and Experience
  • College degree, specialised training or equivalent work experience
  • Relevant work experience within the Finance team of a business or relevant areas of the central Finance function or finance facing IT&S function
  • Excellent team player with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Hands on experience of the finance and controlling applications in SAP

Desirable Criteria
  • Accountancy qualification or working towards one (e.g. CIMA, CPA, ACA, ACCA)
  • Sound Understanding of the nature, purpose and application of Charts of Accounts, including statutory charts, across business segments
  • Previous work experience with SAP Financial Data Structures, Chart of Accounts, MI and Group Reporting
  • Understanding of the interlink between SAP applications
