Town: Broadstairs
About: Local church family of around 40 people. We meet on Sunday for worship and sometimes during the week for prayer and Bible study. Our hall is used for coffee mornings and sales, by local choirs and other groups and is available for community events.
Volunteering role:
Our honorary treasurer is standing down after many years in the role, and none of the church family has the expertise to take it on (although some will help in whatever way they can). The work required includes book-keeping, budgeting, gift aid management, correspondence with the URC Synod office, preparing management accounts for elders’ and church meetings and end of year accounts and arranging the independent examination of accounts.
The local church needs a treasurer in order to fulfil its governance requirements and continue its work – without one its viability is can be called into question. Church members can and will help with some tasks, such as counting and possibly banking money received at services and events, but there needs to be a named competent person in post who liaises with and acts on behalf of the elders, who are trustees of the local church charity.
Skills required: Financial management and book-keeping
Timings: Mainly flexible, apart from attendance at meetings.
Church meetings – Sunday after morning worship, 5 or 6 per year; finance and property group meetings, weekday morning / evening, 5 or 6 per year. Otherwise work can be carried out at any time.
