The Role
Reporting directly to the Audit Committee you will be responsible for managing the internal audit function
and for providing regular independent, objective appraisal to management and the board as to the overall
effectiveness of the control systems. You will make recommendations to the Audit Committee on issues raised
during audit procedures and provide detailed feedback to the management team. You will undertake objective
review, assurance and consulting services to improve the firm's operations by evaluating and improving
the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. Special reviews may be conducted
as requested by the Audit Committee and you may be required to lead specific control initiatives and
firm-wide process changes and be involved in strategic business reviews. You should have proven management
skills and a clear understanding of the regulatory environment and risk management. To succeed in this
role, you need to be diligent, ambitious and self-motivated, with a high level of enthusiasm that will prove an
inspiration to the rest of the team. Exercising sound professional judgment on a consistent basis, you will
actively influence the business through the quality of your verbal communication, written reports and
presentations.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage the independent internal audit function and direct its activities and administrative responsibilities.
*Develop the internal audit budget and submit plan to the audit committee for endorsement and approval.
*Develop flexible rolling medium term and annual audit plans, providing for review of the business units at appropriate intervals and using appropriate risk-based methodology.
*Implement the annual audit plan, as approved by the audit committee, including, as appropriate, any special task or projects requested by management and/or the audit committee.
*Maintain a professional audit support network, supplemented by short term expert consultancies, which collectively have sufficient knowledge, skills, experience, and professional certifications.
*Establish a quality assurance program to ensure that the internal audit function is executing its assigned tasks up to expectation.
*Evaluate and assess significant new or changing operations, processes and systems coincident with their development, implementation and/or expansion.
*Issue periodic reports to the audit committee summarizing results of audit activities and status of implementation of past audit recommendations.
*Keep the audit committee informed of emerging trends and successful practices in internal auditing.
*Provide a list of significant measurement goals and results to the audit committee.
*Consider the scope of work of the external auditors and regulators, as appropriate, for the purpose of providing optimal audit coverage at a reasonable overall cost.
*Have unrestricted access to all functions, records, property and personnel. Documents and information given to internal auditors are handled in the same prudent manner as by those employees normally accountable for them.
*Have full and free access to the audit committee.
*Allocate resources, set frequencies, select subjects, determine scopes of work, and apply the techniques required to accomplish the internal audit objectives.
The Candidate
*Relevant professional qualification (i.e. CIA, CA, ACCA or CPA).
*Minimum work experience of 7 years in an auditing role (internal or external audit), with a minimum of 2 years in the capacity of internal auditor for an organization of similar complexity and in a similar industry real estate / investment management private equity.
*Understanding of real estate / private equity/ oil & gas or fund structuring and valuations.
*Worked for one of the big four audit firms an advantage.
