Purpose of the RoleThe Controller position is responsible for the financial and operational accounting functions of the company for about 18 restaurants and 2 management companies. This will include the production of financial reports including weekly and fiscal period P&Ls, updating management cost reports and analyses, period–end close, review of daily financial activity (sales and deposits, etc.), oversight of weekly payables and cash flow reviews, enhancing the efficiency of the company's financial processes, assist with maintenance of the back office computer system for restaurants, and collaboration with other departments for special projects.
The Controller works primarily with the Vice President of Operations, CFO, and restaurant managers. A team of 3 staff accountants/auditors will report to the Controller. This position is one of 2 Controllers for the company; the other Controller handles about 18 additional restaurants with a separate team of accountants/auditors.
Role ResponsibilitiesEnsure automated daily sales report is updated in Ctuit back office systemReview weekly AP activity and Cash Flow reportsPrepare weekly inventory and sales summary report with variance commentaryReview and approve weekly bank transfersReview AP checks and delegate distributionRecord journal entries for biweekly, summary payrollRecord monthly journal entries for allocated overhead expenses, field supervisor bonuses and insurance, cash transfers, and management fee depositsPerforma comprehensive review individual restaurant results for fiscal period and create highlight notes for executive management reviewReview period manager bonus calculations and update bonus payment trackingRecord beverage company journal entries and perform related bank transfersRecording benefits payment exceptions and reconcile accountsReview monthly rent paymentsAct as liaison and manage copier company contractsEvaluate and track annual restaurant manager QOL and year–end bonus programsManage and record transactions for quarterly rebate payments from trade vendorsManage American Express and gas card accounts, users, and online activityTrack sales and expense activity and adjust back office reporting for periodic festivals/events
???Qualifications and SkillsA minimum of 3 years of experience in restaurant accounting in amulti–unit company is requiredSelf–motivated and independentMust maintain privacy and confidentialityHigh level of attention to detailStrong written and verbal communication skillsWell–versed in Microsoft Word, Excel, OutlookMust be able to communicate effectively with different levels within the company (senior executives to restaurant managers)Experience with restaurant back office system including maintenance of sales reporting, PMIX and recipe setup, weekly in–store P&LExperience with full–cycle GL system including intercompany accounting, P&L, AP, bank recs, prepaids and accruals, credit card receivables, bevco accounting, etcPrefer experience with Quickbook Enterprise, Ctuit, AlohaPrefer candidate with Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar work experienceMust be available to perform time–sensitive role for the week of fiscal period close every fourth week

Physical Demands, Work Environment, and Employment TypeThis role requires reaching and lifting (up to 40 pounds from floor to waist) with hands and arms. Office is in downtown Dallas, Cedars District. This is a full–time role.
