Job Summary: The Controller will lead and work jointly with the management team to oversee the accounting function, monitor and reconcile account balances, close accounting periods, generate financial and other management reports, and manage financial audits. This position has the critical responsibility to develop, maintain and enforce internal controls in accordance with company policies and industry best practices, and in compliance with governmental grant requirements. Responsibilities (Specific tasks, duties, essential functions of the job)Prepare financial statements, forecasts, annual budgets, and other reports as required. Develop, implement and monitor internal controls. Coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with GAAP and governmental grants. Coordinate tax return preparation.Analyze software tools that facilitate accounting and financial reporting effort, and make business case to acquire and implement. Initially, these include software for equity accounting, fixed assets, and ERP and financial reporting. Provide support with preparation of schedules and analyses for quarterly board meetings.
Knowledge, Skills & Ability (Specify Required & Desired)Working understanding of GAAP. Experience with grant reporting requirements is a plus. Knowledge of full–service accounting functions, controls, principles, and procedures. Demonstrated experience in managing people and projects. Excellent verbal/written communications and ability to develop and document procedures. Experience creating an effective finance function with strong controls. Highly organized and able to prioritize multiple tasks and projects. Experience with forecasting/planning within an organization. Qualifications: (Minimum Education & Experience required)B.A. or equivalent in Accounting or Business CPA a plus (Big 4 or large regional firm experience preferred)Minimum 3–5 years of experience in the financial accounting field, in a management role.
