Description

The responsibility of this role is to lead the Controller Function for all Citi legal entities in Australia and New Zealand.This includes the local Australian subsidiary that operates the Consumer Bank, and the CBNA branches and broker dealer entities that operate the Institutional Client Group businesses.

This function is responsible for the accurate and timely production of local financial and regulatory reports, legal entity management matters, financial reporting to the local Boards of AU/NZ legal entities, monitoring of compliance to local prudential requirements, management of the in-country Product Controls function, and coordination and governance of all Financial Control activities.The function works closely with the Regional Controller team and staff in Finance & Risk Shared Services, who are responsible for US reporting and provide support to local financial processes.

The Country Controller partners with other control functions and focuses on strengthening the overall control environment of the AU/NZ franchise .

Key Accountabilities
  • Oversee the local financial reporting, regulatory reporting and accounting functions for all legal entities and securitization trusts in AU/NZ
  • Ensure that accounting is compliant to local IFRS and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure a high level of data integrity and reporting accuracy for all forms of reporting
  • Oversee the reporting process to ensure that the internal, statutory and regulatory audits of legal entities are completed timely and satisfactorily
  • Work closely with FRSS and other partners in offshore Citi Service Centres to fulfil local reporting responsibilities and support improvements in US reporting processes
  • Oversee the development and implementation of process improvements including automation and re-engineering of activities to streamline the Controller processes
  • Support franchise initiatives that require legal entity management, such as legal entity acquisitions and closures, transfer of businesses between legal entities, legal entity restructuring and simplifications
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators, internal auditors and external auditors
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders, including heads of businesses, functions and other Finance disciplines
  • Oversee the preparation and lodging of statutory accounts
  • Matrix management responsibility for the in-country Product Controls team
  • Build and maintain relationships with regulators and external auditors
  • Build and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders
  • Guardian of internal control processes surrounding the General Ledger
  • Active participation in Accounts Review Committee, Legal Entity Management Council, and Local Regulatory Reporting Governance Committee
  • Manage a team of accounting professionals and active development of talent
  • Represent Controllers in the many projects that affect businesses as well as finance-only projects; participate and lead the team in supporting Finance's Best-in-Class and Transformation programs


Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications
  • 10-15 years relevant experience
  • Bachelor degree in accountancy or equivalent
Technical/Specialist skills/competencies
  • Strong understanding of Citigroup financial reporting - US reporting process (FDL/FRS)
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP
  • Strong understanding of Local Financial (IFRS) and Regulatory Reporting (APRA and ASX) requirements
  • Strong understanding of Citi internal control procedures and compliance requirements
  • Strong understanding of Citi accounting policies and procedures
  • Strong knowledge of technical accounting concepts
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong people manager
