Financial Accounting Manager – Department for Transport

Salary - £52,054 - £57,506, plus Recruitment and Retention allowance of £5,000

Do you have a keen eye for detail, as well as an ability to stand back and see the bigger picture? Do you have technical financial accounting experience and enjoy bringing others around to your way of thinking?

Would you like the opportunity to drive improvements to the financial accounting function whilst working on high profile accounts with significant expenditure?

If so, we would love to hear from you.

We have a fantastic opportunity to join our team in the Department for Transport’s Group Finance, Financial Accounting and Control function. We are a diverse team leading on the financial accounting and consolidation for the Department and its Arm’s Length Bodies, whilst working closely with the National Audit Office (NAO) and HM Treasury (HMT).

You will lead a team responsible for the Department’s consolidated group accounts and other financial reporting outputs.  You will be a key contributor to the production of the Department’s annual accounts which, with net expenditure in excess of £20 billion per annum, have a high profile. These accounts are laid in Parliament and their publication attracts significant interest.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the consolidation of Department for Transport’s (DfT) Group accounts
  • Ownership of the DfT General Ledger
  • Leading on Whole of Government Accounts (WGA) and other accounts
  • Leading the cash management team
  • Engaging with internal and external stakeholders across Group Finance, the wider DfT business, ALBs, NAO and HMT
  • Direct line management responsibilities for 2 or 3 colleagues

About you

You are a fully qualified Accountant with significant experience of technical accounting in a complex environment and the production of Group Accounts.

You have a developed understanding of the Financial Reporting Manual (FReM) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and are familiar with SAP Financials or a similar reporting system.

With a broad financial accounting knowledge, you have the ability to recognise and implement continuous improvement within the function and to support the wider business. You are results-driven with a high level of attention to detail and you are comfortable working under pressure to achieve deadlines.

You have excellent interpersonal skills and engage effectively to build trusted working relationships and credibility. You encourage an inclusive working environment for your team.

Closing Date – 9th August 2019
