MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
Accountants require Senior Bookkeeper for competent bookkeeping & preparation of Management Accounts for their clients. Accounting and bookkeeping to trial balance essential. Preparing Management accounts highly desirable. Exposure to statutory personal and corporate accounts prepared on Practice software a bonus. Client management will also be part of this role.
MAIN TASKS OF JOB
  • Completion of weekly and monthly bookkeeping
  • Responsible for preparation and filing of VAT Returns
  • Closing off ledgers for month ends
  • Accurate data input of client accounting information in electronic systems
  • Ensuring client records are accurately maintained
  • The role includes client management, basic accounting and bookkeeping to trial balance.
  • Will have the opportunity to assist the Financial, Management Accounts, and Tax teams as progress is made.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels internally and externally with a positive, proactive approach
  • Willingness to cover for other staff on leave and work in an all-rounder capacity when required
  • Proactive approach to tasks, taking ownership and thinking outside the box
  • Client systems analysis and recommendations
  • Variety of other tasks required as part of the smooth running of the practice and team which whilst not exhaustive include: maintaining good time and note records in the practice management system, effectively communicating issues and ideas, participating in team meetings
  • Assisting with penalties, charges and investigations
KEY SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience (3yrs) in practice preferable over qualifications. Practice experience should be with a UK based small to medium sized practice. If qualification-based completion of level 3 AAT minimum.
  • Double entry bookkeeping
  • Good knowledge of VAT required, including knowledge of cash, accrual and flat rate vat schemes. Knowledge of CIS an advantage.
  • Good IT skills, in particular MS Office and Sage Accounting packages. Use of excel spreadsheets and other software including the readiness to complete training on new software e.g. Xero cloud based bookkeeping software.
  • Meticulous, attention to detail, focused and driven with good problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Managing deadlines for planning and reporting foreseen issues
  • The ability to prioritise and be flexible is vital, along with the willingness to work in an 'all-rounder' capacity
