The Metropolitan Police Service (the Met) is one of the Oldest police services in the world. The Met is the UK’s largest police service and has 25% of the total police budget for England and Wales.

The territory we serve covers 620 square miles and is home to over 8.6 million people.

We are recruiting for Financial Analysts which will support a number of directorates. The Finance Analyst is tasked with supporting the Strategic Finance Business Partner and the Deputy Finance Business Partner in ensuring that the MPS achieves value for money and maximises value from the services it delivers while meeting the needs of the Business. This will be achieved by helping provide insight and support mainly at an operational level, highlighting potential risks/opportunities and identifying options to drive continuous cost reductions and performance improvement.

The main responsibilities include:
  • Supporting the Finance Business Partner in providing the MPS Executive with value added and timely analysis regarding actual results and forecasts, proposing options to ensure the organisation achieves its operational goals.
  • Building good relationships with the Budget Holders in order to influence and deliver value for the MPS through the implementation of the financial strategy.
  • Provide support for projects including business and strategic planning, investment appraisals, acquisitions, disposals and contract bids.
  • Assist managers and Strategic and Corporate Finance in producing and managing the group budget and strategic plan process, including providing effective support during the budget process through analysis of divisional budget proposals and presentations to ensure that budgets and savings plans are robust.
  • Support the maximisation of income generation activities, including developing analytics that will ensure decision makers understand relationships between cost and price and the impact on local and corporate budgets of commercial proposals.
  • Work collaboratively with the commercial function to deliver cost and volume analytics to enable and support VFM on key categories with suppliers and inform the development of the Met’s commercial pipeline.

The successful candidate will be a part/fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, etc) with previous experience in a similar role. We are looking for an ambitious and proactive finance professional, with first-class communication skills. Confident in advising, challenging and negotiating with people, often senior to yourself, with different opinions. You will have good financial and analytical skills to be able to digest large amounts of information with attention to detail when working under pressure. Experience/exposure to business cases in line with HM treasury green book guidelines is an advantage but not essential.
