Are you a fully qualified accountant with a strong understanding and working knowledge of preparing management accounts, budgets, forecasts and audited financial statements?

We are the Institution of Structural Engineers. The world’s largest membership body dedicated to the art and science of structural engineering.

The Role
We’re currently looking to expand our finance team with a permanent Accountant. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual looking to progress their financial accountancy career.

Our finance team are small but busy, and your contribution will come from supporting the Finance Manager to ensure the integrity and accuracy of all the Institutions’ financial records, and in all areas of financial management.

Part of this role will also include taking the lead on financial planning and management of our trading subsidiaries and working with the Chief Operating Officer and Head of Learning and Development to plan, manage and analyse our commercial activities.

You will be highly numerate with a tenacious attitude to understand variances and improve the robustness of financial and administrative procedures. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills are crucial to interrogate and extract data to create reports.

About You:
We are looking for candidates with experience of:

  • Preparing budgets, forecasts and year-end audited accounts
  • Preparing monthly management accounts
  • Developing and critically reviewing P&L statements/reports
  • Working in both charity and commercial sectors would be highly advantageous

You must have:

  • Full accounting qualification (CIMA/ACCA/ACA)
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of accounts and audit preparation, budgets and forecasts, and accounting in a commercial environment
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral
  • The ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Intermediate / advanced skills of Excel
  • Experience user of ‘Great Plains’ or similar accounts package would be desirable
