The Tax Manager role is accountable for keeping businesses compliant with various local, state, and federal tax regulations. S/he is also responsible for leading and managing multiple operations of the tax practice area and delivering quality tax services. The role is a business partner to our clients aiming at building relationships, providing innovative tax planning, consulting and expertise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage tax complaint services
  • Advising clients on general corporate compliance, cabotage, petroleum profits tax, Nigerian content in oil & gas industry, recent tax legislations/regulations, foreign exchange legislation, investments & securities, etc.
  • Advising companies on the resolutions required for specific corporate actions and drafting such resolutions.
  • Reviewing agreements and preparing legal opinion on the interpretation of various legal documents.
  • Carrying out strategic planning for clients with the aim of minimizing their corporate tax liabilities.
  • Providing advice on:
    • Contract structuring.
    • Compensation structuring and restructuring.
    • Business start-ups, registrations and regulations.
    • Business forecasts and tax budgeting.
    • Increasing shareholder value
  • Advising on international taxation issues including:
    • Thin capitalization.
    • Transfer pricing.
    • Permanent establishment issues
  • Carrying out Health Checks and Reviews, as the team lead and as a team member.
  • Working with audit teams to establish appropriate amount and disclosure of taxes and their treatment in financial statements.
  • Liaising with the Finance Department of various organisations to identify and review income accounting processes, including review and advising on deferred tax computations and treatment.
  • Performing due diligence reviews for clients during the consolidation of the banking and insurance sectors in Nigeria.
  • Supervising and reviewing the filing of returns such as Company Income tax, Education tax and PAYE returns with tax authorities.
  • Clients payroll management
  • Restructuring clients’ payroll structures to optimize employees’ liabilities.
  • Processing of Tax Clearance certificates for corporate and individual clients and their employees.
  • Representing clients during audits and negotiations
  • Responding to queries including preparation of objection letters.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • BA in Accounting/Taxation or equivalent qualifications        
  • Proven work experience as a Tax Senior/Manager
  • Excellent knowledge of tax accounting & compliance and all types of tax returns
  • Excellent knowledge of local tax laws
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Exceptional client service and the ability to develop excellent client relationships
  • Knowledge of tax software and MS Office

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Role is based in Lagos but may require some travel within Nigeria.
