About the Work

The Deloitte Commercial Advisory Energy Transition team works with businesses, governments, regulators and energy consumers to help them navigate uncertainty and pursue opportunities as the energy sector is disrupted by new policies, technologies and business models. Our team includes engineers, government and regulatory specialists, commercial and business advisers, and modellers who work collaboratively across all the different components of the energy and emissions sectors. We aim to help our clients understand the environment they operate within and identify what actions they could take to get better outcomes for their business, their customers and other stakeholders.

We are a diverse team with a high level of client interaction across all levels off staff and we actively participate in assisting clients to make strategic choices with respect to energy and emissions. This is done through analytical rigour, deep industry knowledge and high quality communications. Some examples of projects successfully delivered include:

  • Helped governments design key energy policies, including the Victorian Renewable Energy Target
  • Advised governments and oil and gas companies on the opportunities emerging for hydrogen
  • Identified new business opportunities for existing market players and potential new entrants
  • Considered the implications of renewable generation penetration in South Australia
  • Helped energy businesses understand the implications of new policy obligations
  • Undertaken a review of the role of gas in a decarbonised world
  • Assessed the potential for high powered electric vehicle charging across Australia
  • Studied the state of innovation in electricity network businesses
  • Advised on the sale of New South Wales network assets
  • Developed business cases for submission to government procurement and grant funding processes (including ARENA)
  • Assessed the economically efficient level of system restart ancillary services

About You

You will bring sound commercial, financial, regulatory or engineering skills and experience, preferably in a consulting, industry or advisory environment, with a relevant tertiary qualification.

You will have an interest in furthering your skills or knowledge in:

  • The frameworks governing Australia's energy markets and global decarbonisation activities
  • Developing quantitative and qualitative analysis to support decision making
  • Applying analytical frameworks using either commercial, financial and economic skills
  • Drafting and communicating well-structured, evidence based and persuasive reports suitable for a variety of audiences
