The opportunity


We are looking for an Associate Director/Director within the Transaction Advisory Services team in our Melbourne office. This role is offered on a flexible full-time basis.

The DOH within our Transaction Advisory Services practice works closely with all major competencies within TAS including Mergers and Acquisition Services, Project Finance, Restructuring Services, Operational Transaction Services, Transaction Diligence, Transaction Tax, and Valuation and Economic Modelling. The DOH is an external facing market leader in delivering unique and innovative insights on potential transactions and upcoming deals in the market, acting as the "tip of the spear" for TAS' broader competences.

Enjoy leading client discussions with exposure to some of Australia's most respected private equity firms, institutional investors and corporate acquirers. We're looking for a Director in either Sydney or Melbourne with an interest in corporate strategy, M&A, private equity and/or value creation in a deal environment. As part of our team, you will help clients develop their strategies, evaluate potential transactions, determine the best way to raise, invest, optimize and preserve their capital.

Your key responsibilities
  • Lead and manage client projects related to acquisitions by private equity investors and strategic corporate buyers including comprehensive target searches and the development of value creation investment theses
  • Actively build and maintain relationships with the investment teams in our key PE and corporate clients
  • Identify potential transactions and develop unique and proprietary investments trends in the market working closely with our market segment teams as well as utilising your own ingenuity and personal networks
  • Actively contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of DOH's strategy and interaction with sub-service lines across TAS and the broader Oceania firm
  • Manage and develop DOH's dedicated research team
  • Support the personal and professional development of junior staff
  • Identify business development opportunities and assist senior DOH team members building market-leading relationships with blue chip clients
Skills and attributes for success
  • Self-driven, creative and intellectually curious with a passion for problem solving
  • Outstanding communicator (written and verbal communication skills) in both formal and informal/social settings
  • Talented relationship builder
  • A bachelors or masters degree in accounting, business, finance or economics preferred
  • At least 5-10+ years of related work experience, with these areas being seen as favourable: M&A (in-house or advisory), private equity, strategy/management consulting, transaction services and/or restructuring
  • Strong analytical skills and proven intellectual agility to drive the 'big-picture' whilst still getting the details right
  • Experience in leading and developing small teams of ambitious, highly capable professionals
  • A strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to new challenges and ideas in a collaborative team environment
