Client Details

Our client is a leading provider in the leisure industry and have experienced rapid growth and success over the last few years. They are now looking to consolidate their position and improve profitability whilst continuing to grow in the European market. They are looking for a Financial Controller who will play a crucial part and be at the heart of this busy and growing SME. This is a real opportunity to shape the future direction of the company, in an exciting and innovative company.

The ideal candidate will already be a Financial Controller within an SME or looking to take the next step up to a Controller position. This role will suit a Financial Controller who is confident in their decision making, self-motivated, ambitious and has strong operational experience, preferably within an owner managed business/SME.

The FC's role is to provide important information to assist and advise the Directors decision making. The FC must ensure that the finance function provides accurate and timely financial information for the board, essential basic internal controls and basic transactional services. You will also have responsibility for 2 direct reports.

There is the potential opportunity for this role to become Finance Director in the event of strong performance and continued growth.


As the Financial Controller you will be:

  • Producing and communicating accurate and timely monthly management accounts and board packs, along with commentary to the board
  • Working closely with the board to develop reports to help the Directors drive growth within the business
  • Management of 2 direct reports
  • Take lead on commercial decisions such as pricing and contract negotiation
  • Balance sheet review to ensure all accounts are reconciled monthly and good accounting practices are adhered to
  • Weekly review of cash position and advising the MD accordingly
  • Lead annual budget process and maintain all supporting spreadsheets
  • Manage external relationships including bank, insurance and accounting firm
  • Running year end process
  • Oversee all transactional processes and internal controls
  • Profile

    Skills & Attributes Required:

    • Qualified Accountant - CIMA, ACCA or ACA
    • Very hands-on and self sufficient
    • High proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, Vlookups etc)
    • Commercially astute
    • Enthusiastic and pro-active attitude
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
