Pearson Education Limited is certified currently to ISO9001 Quality Management, ISO27001 Information Security, ISO22301 Business Continuity and Cyber Essentials at various Pearson UK sites. The responsibility for the maintenance of our ISO9001 and ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials certifications lies with the Business Improvement and Regulation division, part of the Quality, Standards and Governance division led by Pearson's responsible officer, who reports directly to the President of Core Markets.

The Audit and Quality department supports the awarding body function of the business, responsible for ensuring that processes are driven by continual improvement, meet the needs of our customers, achieve our business goals and comply with Pearson and regulatory requirements, in line with our business certifications. We help maintain this through delivery of an annual audit programme and the implementation of our Quality and Information Security management systems and various business improvement initiatives to support this.

The purpose of the role:

You will support the Audit and Quality team in ensuring business compliance with internal policies and procedures, regulatory requirements and external business standards such as ISO9001 (Quality Management), ISO27001 (Information Security) and ISO22301 (Business Continuity)

  • Support the audit function which acts as an independent, objective assurance and consulting service with the main objective of adding value and improving performance, covering Pearson UK sites and Pearson suppliers

  • Complete high quality audits (i.e. planning, execution and reporting) in accordance with Business Improvement and Regulation audit processes, leading by example

  • Train and support auditors and supervise them on their assigned audits

Key Role–Specific Deliverables


  • Carrying out your own audits from planning to completion which demonstrates best practice to the audit team

  • Analysing audit findings and suggesting good practice and areas for business process improvement

  • Recommending and promoting practical and cost–effective actions for improving the effectiveness of business processes and monitoring and supporting to ensure the successful completion of action plans

  • Supporting other auditors on their assigned audits, ensuring they are carried out effectively, providing constructive feedback on auditor performance to support development

  • Assisting with the planning and scheduling of audit activity including Pearson UK sites and Pearson suppliers

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of processes, policies and procedures, as a result of reviews of current business practices

  • Identifying best practice and working alongside management to deliver and implement pragmatic, commercial action plans

  • Communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing with internal and external colleagues, customers and senior managers

  • Undertaking the lead or support of specific projects

  • Collating information for Management Review that support our business certifications, particularly in relation to the audit function

  • Performing supervisory responsibilities in accordance with good practice and the Pearson people manager policies

  • Liaising with external agencies in connection with the role

  • Supporting the delivery of an audit awareness programme to ensure the business understands the importance of the audit function

  • Managing department procedures and documentation relating to audit

  • Supporting the broader work of Business Improvement and Regulation by working across the various functions of the division, including investigations into cases of appeal, malpractice, maladministration and breaches of security, regulatory monitoring and business continuity when required to do so

Key Measures of Success

  • Maintenance of ISO22301, ISO9001 and ISO27001 certifications

  • Production of high quality audit plans and reports

Previous Work Experience


  • Knowledge and experience of auditing against ISO standards including ISO9001, ISO27001, ISO22301 or equivalent audit/quality assurance experience

  • Regulatory background
