Head of Finance
That dichotomy between I love working for a large plc but I really want to have more ownership for a business unit is a difficult one. How do you get to own an end to end process within an organisation that's vast? What about being a trusted business partner, it's your area, yours to grow, shape and deliver. Don't get me wrong your peer group of business partners from the other specialisms will be alongside you on the journey to exceptional business performance.
A senior leader within finance you won't need me to provide a menu but for clarity this is NOT reporting, what is required is insight, challenge and influence. Your ability to translate what picture the numbers are giving you into guiding critical business decisions is. Absolutely you'll be expecting to see the monthly results, forecasts, budgets against the business projections but what is expected is the ability to turn that information into perspective and ultimately steer. Controls and processes will ultimately need to be your guide rails but from there is limited only by your ingenuity.
Not everyone will want to work in a large organisation, but if you have done and adore it there could be something really stunning here. As a leader your raison d'etre is to inspire, develop and engage your team. With your stakeholders they'll need your strategic input, attention to detail and intellectual challenge. If you're asking me what it will take to deliver in this role you will be able to identify & grab the priorities amidst a range of demands. With any fast journey it won't be a smooth ride so equipped with resilience and agility you'll be well able to navigate any bumps in the road.
Now I've thrown down the gauntlet if you are still up for the challenge, let's talk who you are is equally important to the skills you bring so don't worry about an immaculate CV. Let us know you're interested and we can work the rest through together.
