Tax Summer Intern
Purpose of role: Assist in ongoing Corporate Tax, VAT and Employment Tax compliance and advisory projects
Duration: Role requires availability on a full-time basis for the summer months
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting on tax related projects as required by Primark (covering both direct and indirect taxes)
- Interrogating various accounting systems to extract data and documents
- Analysing and summarising large volumes of data for inclusion in internal documents and/or external responses
- Maintaining the good relationships Primark has created with tax authorities and tax advisors
- Ad hoc technical research into areas of tax legislation
- Attending and taking notes of meetings and calls
Other Ad Hoc Responsibilities
- Supporting the tax managers and finance team during tax audits
- Assisting the tax team with contract reviews
- Working with other members of tax team to provide all areas of the business with support and advice on tax queries and issues
Experience/Skills/Knowledge
- Ambitious self-starter with positive attitude and who strives to build knowledge
- Effective organisation and time management skills with ability adhere to project deadlines
- Attention to detail with strong financial and analytical skills
- Strong presentation and communication skills required
- Ability to handle multiple priorities
- Proficient in the English language, including the ability to listen, understand, read and communicate effectively both in writing and verbally in a professional environment
- Proficient with MS Office, including MS Excel, MS Word, MS PowerPoint experience and comfortable adapting to new technologies/systems a plus (e.g., SQL, VB.net)
- Working towards a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, law or a related field
- Experience working in a tax environment would be an advantage
- Prior experience of finance/accounting systems would be beneficial
