Since 1174, St John's Foundation has provided support to the people of Bath and surrounding area. This committed and progressive charity works extremely hard to build resilient communities by supporting people to overcome challenges, improve their lives and live as independently as possible.

They do this in many ways, for example, by providing support and care for older people (through the provision of almshouse accommodation), by engaging directly with individuals and local communities through community outreach hubs and operating a funding support programme which provides financial assistance and practical support to individuals and charitable and community organisations across Bath and the surrounding area.

As a charity, St John's is committed to consistent delivery of all these outstanding services and has ambitious plans to grow and develop the organisation, people and services in the next few years. As part of its ambitious strategy, the organisation is now seeking to recruit a Finance Director.

Reporting to the Chief Executive and working closely with him and the executive team, this role will act as the overall strategic lead for Finance and Corporate Governance and be responsible for overseeing the executive management of the organisation's financial investments, working closely with the Property Director to ensure short and long term investment objectives are delivered.

Other key accountabilities include:

To oversee the preparation of all financial information including month and year end accounts, forecasts and business cases. Encouraging good budgetary controls and generally advancing the success of all financial projects, ensuring they are delivered on spec, on time and on budget. Advise the Board and executive team accordingly
To work in partnership with other Executive Team members to implement transformation strategies ensuring a joined up methodical approach and delivery against key milestones
To oversee Internal Audit practices and management of risks
To line manage the Finance Manager and Governance and Information Manager supporting them to deliver accurate and timely information to the Board, executive team and wider leadership group

It is essential that you are a qualified accountant with proven commercial and operational experience, have up to date knowledge of financial regulations and requirements, ideally for the not–for–profit sector, and have previous experience of managing support functions and projects including financial feasibility studies, introducing new systems and methodologies and managing change.

Effective communication and excellent people management skills, as well as the ability to be a strong and credible ambassador for the charity, are also essential.
