Finance Manager, Child Rights & Protection [#254]

Our partner works to protect and support children affected by conflict and violence, finding them safe houses and the opportunity to receive an education. Having undergone a period of rapid expansion and with the confirmation of funding from institutional funders, they are looking to strengthen the capacity of their partners across Africa and have a preference for a full-time candidate, starting with a 6 month term in Sierra Leone and moving on to other country offices as required. Alternately, they would be open to recruiting for this role just as a 6 month consultancy.
In Sierra Leone, the successful candidate will be working with one key partner, supporting the Finance Director in building and strengthening all aspects of financial management, budgeting and reporting. They are seeking a Finance Manage to establish the accounting & financial management structures of their partners, supporting them in establishing and maintaining a sound control environment, and meeting donor & other compliance and reporting requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish a sound control environment, ensuring that proper financial systems are in place in the Freetown and field offices & monitoring these to minimise risks.
- Establish and ensure the appropriate cash management processes are in place, training/mentoring staff in these and monitoring adherence to these.
- Oversee Quickbooks implementation
- Oversee and ensure accurate and timely grant compliance and donor reporting. This includes:
- Overseeing proper documentation of spending
- Preparing monthly management accounts for individual grants, and the organisation as a whole.
- Implementing proper cost allocation of donor grants.
- Update the Finance Manual with any changes to any procedures and systems.
Person Specification
- Qualified, experienced accountant (at least 5 years post-qualification) with familiarity of budget preparation and monitoring, and grant compliance, management and reporting.
- Knowledge of developing internal controls and financial management systems, and risk management experience.
- Strong systems skills, experience of implementing an accounting system is desirable.
- Experience of institutional grant management and donor compliance within an INGO setting.
- Strong business partnering skills, including experience of working with field staff in an INGO setting.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Diplomatic and able to deal with external and internal stakeholders with tact.
Salary c. £40,000. Additionally, the partner will cover the cost of one return flight, accommodation & in-country travel.
