Street Child is a fast–growing development and humanitarian INGO with education, child protection and livelihoods operations spanning ten countries across Africa and Asia. We are seeking an experienced finance professional to support our Africa programmes, with an initial focus on Sierra Leone and Nigeria. The position is based in Freetown, with travel to Abuja. The successful candidate will work alongside our partner organisations to support the development and implementation of robust financial management and reporting systems.

The salary is GBP50,000 per annum, negotiable dependent on experience. This role is offered as an initial 6 month contract based in Sierra Leone, which may lead to a permanent position (location flexible with international travel)


The successful candidate will work alongside our partner's Finance Director to provide intensive support and training to the finance team in the following key areas:

Financial Management

Ensure effective implementation and use of QuickBooks accounting software
Ensure proper financial systems are in place, in head office and across field locations, and implemented to accurately record expenditure
Ensure compliance with accounting procedures and policies and actively monitor internal controls to minimize risk to the organization
Ensure appropriate bank & cash management procedures are in place and operating effectively, including bank reconciliations for all accounts, cash counts and cash transfers to field sites
Ensure preparation and retention of documentation to facilitate financial & donor compliance audits
Implement a system of cost allocations among donors based on a fair & transparent methodology
Update the Finance Manual in line with any changes to procedures and include a summarised version for use by Project Co–ordinators and other field based staff

Financial Reporting

Preparation of monthly management accounts for all grants
Ensure that donor expenditure is recorded accurately & finance reports are of high quality with full supporting transaction listings reconciled to the finance system and delivered to deadlines in accordance donor requirements



Recognised Accountancy Qualification
5 years post qualification experience
Extensive knowledge of finance & logistics policy within non–governmental organisations
Experience of implementing internal controls and finance procedures
Experience of managing multi donor grants and good knowledge of donor compliance rules and requirements
Knowledge of computer applications and software finance packages – in particular QuickBooks
Strong interpersonal, management and team work skills
Fluent English – written and spoken


Knowledge of development issues and concepts
Good communication and staff training / capacity building skills
Ability to work on own initiative and lead diverse teams
System design and implementation of finance software packages
