Robertson Bell Finance are proud to be working in a retained partnership with the College of Policing in their search for a Financial Systems Accountant to be based at their Coventry office with the opportunity for home working.

The College of Policing was established in 2012 as the professional body for everyone who works for the police service across England and Wales. Its purpose is to support everyone working in policing to reduce crime and keep people safe. Working in the finance team within the College offers a unique opportunity to blend the benefits of working in a central government organisation with such an important purpose, but one that also has a significant commercial outlook. The Finance team plays a key role in influencing College strategy and facilitating its success. This will only continue to grow in the future, with the continuing the need to ensure value for money for the tax payer.

Working as part of a 19 (FTE) finance team and reporting into the Financial Controller, this hands on position is a great opportunity for you to structure your own role whilst helping to shape and develop a strong financial culture within the college. The role is to lead continuous improvement of the College’s financial processes and systems. Developing an understanding of ‘best practice’ across the finance sector, identifying necessary improvements that can be made and managing effective implementation. Ensure that finance policies are up to date, and that colleagues can access the information that they need. To lead on the College’s compliance with all applicable tax regulations, and that tax liabilities are reported and paid accurately and on time. Analyse SAP reports to determine the College’s liability for VAT based on its partially exempt status which includes preparing and submitting accurate quarterly VAT returns.

In applying for this position, it is essential that you are a part or fully qualified accountant (CCAB or equivalent). The role has broad responsibilities enabling the Financial Systems Accountant to get out into the business, building relationships across the finance and non-finance teams to drive through systems improvements. This position will have a key role in assisting with the implementation of a new ERP system expected to be implemented within the College in the next 12 months, so it is key the individual is a natural problem solver and keen to get stuck in with a range of projects. Experience of working to UK government or wider public sector accounting and regulatory requirements would be an advantage but not essential.
