The client is a privately–owned South of England materials technology firm that has developed a range of products with multiple applications in multiple sectors and in multiple international territories. The company now has approx. 30 staff and GBP3mil turnover. The challenge now is to convert enthusiastic prospects and huge potential into sales by focusing on a few applications and sectors and territories that will lead to rapid growth to GBP20million plus within a few years.
The company is seeking an experienced Finance Director to deliver the necessary financial input to support the business on a day to day and strategic basis.

Job Role Summary
Reporting to the CEO, the primary responsibility of the Finance Director is for the financial management, control and timely reporting of the business. Working closely with the CEO, the Finance Director will also have responsibility for the strategic direction of the business, shareholder and lender relationships, fundraising, as well as direct interface with key accounts where required. Because of the small size of the business the role will require considerable flexibility and will also include an on–going range of special projects related to business development.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Member of the Board
  • Member of the Management Team
  • Chair of the S&Op Planning meetings
  • Involvement in Strategic Business Planning
  • Preparation of budgets, forecasts and financial plans
  • Working Capital & Cash Flow management
  • Financial Reporting on both routine and special project basis
  • Auditor and bank relationships
  • Company secretarial responsibilities, including statutory reporting
  • Credit and debtor processing & controls
  • Margin management and pricing policies
  • Leading Fundraising initiatives
  • Supporting the CEO & Chairman in shareholder relationship matters
  • Business IT systems
  • HR & Payroll

Level of Accountability

  • Accountable for the financial governance of the business
  • Accountable for timely and accurate operational financial reporting
  • Responsible for business budgeting and forecasting processes
  • Responsible for all statutory Company compliance issues
  • Pricing and Margin management
  • Responsible for the efficient use of working capital
  • Cash management and forecasting

Primary Skills required

  • Fully Qualified Management Accountant ( ACCA or CIMA )
  • Proven experience as a proactive Finance Manager of manufacturing enterprises, ideally with exposure to early stage technology businesses
  • Experience in Private Equity/ VC type environment
  • Excellent communication skills, with calm professional demeanour
  • IT literate on accounting, CRM and MRP type systems
  • Rigorous, accurate and logical in approach
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team player
  • Adaptable to changing priorities
