The Asia Business Unit division encompasses activities conducted in the Asia-Pacific region, where Société Générale has a presence of 2,500 employees in 12 different countries, with regional headquarters in Hong Kong. The Asia BU business is focused on Corporate & Investment Banking: Global Markets, Global Financing, and Global Transaction Banking.
The Asia-Pacific Compliance division ("CPLE/ASI") is the Compliance arm of the Asia BU. It has a local presence in Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan (100+ staff in total). Our primary focus is to support CIB-type of activities (global capital markets & global structured finance) across the region.
Hong Kong is the regional Compliance hub. The Hong Kong Compliance team is approx. 50+ staff and split into 6 areas of expertise:
• Advisory to Capital Markets Business Lines
• Advisory to Global Investment Banking Business Lines, and Control Room
• Advisory to Support Functions
• Capital Markets Surveillance
• 2nd Level Controls and Risk Assessment
• Financial Crime Unit
• Regulatory Oversight
• Chief Operating Officer (COO)
The candidate will be a member of the Hong Kong COO team.
He/she will be reporting to the Compliance Regional COO (Chief Operating Officer) for Asia-Pacific, based in Hong Kong.
The candidate will focus on some the topics with most exposure to Management: Compliance governance (towards the management of the bank), and will get the opportunity to intervene in the aspects of COO activity especially Steering of APAC Compliance and Compliance department transformation, including but not limited to Compliance Digital Transformation.

The candidate will assist the Compliance COO in deploying effective governance in the Asia-Pacific region and lead the execution of Asia-Pacific Compliance governance committee:
Lead the Asia Business Unit Compliance Committee ("COMCO")
The quarterly committee aims to:
- Determine the BU's broad outlines and principles in terms of compliance
- Manage Compliance risks and steer the Compliance Plans: review key events, have an overview of the compliance system, main regulatory developments, and status of regulatory projects
It is an extensive exercise prepared all through the quarter, with a deep-dive in the functional content to be able to present:
- The recent Compliance incidents and trends
- The main risks and how they are addressed
- The progress in the Compliance Transformation Plan
It involves the most senior group of leaders in the Asia Business Unit e.g. CEO, COO, Regional heads of Business Lines, CFO, CRO, CCO.
Lead the Compliance Contribution to Internal Control Committee for Asia ("ICCC")
The committee with Operational Risk, Finance, and internal Audit and CPLE aims to:
- Provide an assessment of the first line of defense
- Picture an assessment of the second line of defense
It also involves the most senior group of leaders in the Asia Business Unit
Same as for the COMCO, it requires an extensive preparation work all through the quarter in order to be able to present meaningful metrics and assessments for management.
•Contribute to other committees if required
There are thematic committees to which Compliance Asia is required to contribute.
A recent example is the Asia BU Strategic Steering with DGLE.
Communications:
The candidate will assist the Compliance COO in deploying effective Communication:
Management Presentations for Asia Compliance
A recent example is the presentation of Legal, Audit, Risk and Credit Group, Compliance in Asia Pacific for the Societe Generale group chairman.
Presentations for Regulators
Senior visitors as well as events (e.g. re-organization) leads to opportunities to proactively interact with our regulators in the region. Those opportunities typically lead to meetings with senior management of the bank and requires to build presentation materials, that are meaningful from a regulators' perspective.
Internal Communication
The department has a set of internal communications (e.g. visitors, appointments etc.) that would be under the supervision of the candidate.
Internal Events
Asia Compliance holds a yearly seminar with ~70 participants from the region, as well as senior Compliance managers from other regions (e..g in 2018 Group Compliance Chief of Staff, Compliance Chief Officer for Americas, Compliance Global Head of Financial Crime.
The event is a landmark event for the department, which is recognized for the quality of its content and execution.
It requires an extensive work to design the event: selection of topics and internal/external distinguished speakers, coordination, administration and animation.

1. Technical skills
Required/Must Have:
• At least 10 years relevant experience gained from investment/corporate banking
• Very good capacity to see the bigger picture and highlight matters of strategic importance for senior management consideration
• Knowledge of the investment banking environment (activities etc.)
• Presentation and communication skills; ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization
