It’s never been a more exciting time to be part of Ofgem. The energy industry is on the cusp of some huge changes, and it’s the regulator’s job to help them happen, while ensuring consumers are protected.
Enforcement plays a central role in helping Ofgem to promote and protect consumers’ interests, ensuring that companies and market participants comply with their obligations. The Enforcement Decision Panel (EDP) was established in June 2014 as a body within Ofgem, to take decisions on settlement mandates and contested cases on behalf of the Authority. The EDP is made up of experts in their fields, one of whom is the Chair.
Members of the Panel play a crucial role in helping Ofgem achieve its enforcement vision. Since it was established, the EDP has made decisions regarding 15 of Ofgem’s enforcement investigations, resulting in payments of fines and redress by licensees of £132 million, as well as other significant sanctions.
Ofgem is looking to appoint people who bring a senior background in one or more of: regulated industry (ideally gas or electricity); competition and/or consumer policy; competition law; economics; compliance and trading in financial instruments and commodities.
The successful candidates will bring excellent analytical ability, integrity, impartiality and objectivity. They will demonstrate practical problem-solving and decision-making skills, and will be team players able to deal effectively with senior business and regulatory figures.
