Reed Finance are working with a Public Sector client in the North Leeds area in the search for an Interim Accountant to cover a period of maternity leave till January 2019. The main purpose of the role is to support the Financial/Management Accountants in the provision of a comprehensive, professional accountancy service to the business, including financial and management accounting, financial budgeting and modelling, treasury and general ledger maintenance.

• To provide assurance that the Balance Sheet accounts are reconciled and any issues corrected with responsibility for own accounts and oversight of others performed by the Assistant Accountant.
• To manage the timely production and distribution of accurate monthly reporting packs to SLT and budget holders.
• To be responsible for salary and overtime reporting.
• To be responsible for compilation and submission of statutory returns including EC sales, intra-stats, MOSS and Gift Aid to HMRC and other Government bodies.
• To assist in ensuring VAT and Corporation Tax compliance across the business including preparation of annual VAT reclaim percentage in line with agreement from HMRC and preparation of the businesses corporation tax computation. To provide advice to business areas on tax treatment of proposed transactions/contracts etc.
• To maintain the Fixed Asset register including managing the annual asset identification exercise and other activities to support the NOA external audit of fixed assets.
• Ensure the Fixed Asset register reconciles to the businesses accounting ledger and to be secure in the application of the Fixed Asset policy and to facilitate being a main point of contact for all capital related queries within the business.
• To manage the production and verification of information on Trust Funds for reporting to the Board.
• To participate in financial process improvement reviews.
• To assist with other accounting projects.
• To demonstrate a willingness to take on a range of tasks and to develop new skills, as appropriate, in own or other departments to support the delivery of the businesses services as required by line management and to undertake ‘lead’ roles within accountancy as required/appropriate.

• Accountancy Qualification – CCAB qualified or part qualified
• Direct and Indirect tax experience
• Financial and mathematical acumen
• Excellent IT skills, exploits technology to achieve results
• Understanding of financial regulations and practices
• Takes timely decisions
• Manages resources effectively and efficiently
• Satisfies internal and external users’ needs
• Demonstrates drive and resilience
• Will have the ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, and be able to question, challenge and coach as necessary
• Will have a flexible approach and the capability to work on their own initiative.
