About Turks and Caicos Islands Government

The Turks & Caicos Islands lie 575 miles southeast of Miami, one hundred miles north of the Dominican Republic and thirty miles southeast of the Bahamas. Flying time is just ninety minutes . The Turks & Caicos Islands cover a land area of 193 square miles. The islands are surrounded by a continuous system of coral reef.

The majority of the "Belonger" population are descendants of Africans who were brought to the Caribbean with Bermudians in the 1700's to work on the salt pans and later with Loyalists to work on cotton plantations. There is also a growing number of "expatriate" residents of North American, European and Asian descent. The total population at last census in 2012 was Approximately 31500.

TCI has a strong Economy: Sovereign Credit Rating of BBB+, an estimated annual growth rate of 4.3% and the US$ as our national currency. It also supports a Pro-Business Investment Climate: Government support at all levels, including the provision of investment incentives in priority sectors. No direct corporate, personal, capital gains or inheritance taxes. No exchange controls.
TCI has a Strong Legal System: A British Dependent Territory with a strong and effective judicial system based on English Common Law. In addition, it follows effective Regulation and Compliance: Compliant with IMF, OECD and FATF standards: Committed to US and UK FATCA and early adoption of the Common Reporting Standard.
