  1. Job Description:

    The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Accounting and Finance team at W Corbett & Co (Galvanizing) Ltd (“Corbetts” or the “Company”). The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing financial expertise and support to the Accounting and Finance, Sales and Operations teams as well as other departments within the Company as needed. This role supports all financial reporting including journal entries and financial statement preparation, financial processes, accounting program development and compliance processes for the Company. Additionally, this role is tasked with developing dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensuring reporting capabilities adhere to accounting best practices and management information systems.

  2. Responsibilities:
  1. Support (30% of time):
  • Supporting the Corbetts Finance Director, this position will prepare summary financial numbers and management discussion comments on a monthly basis; assist the annual external audit and produce ad hoc reports for Corbetts Executive Leadership and external parties
  • Ensuring the continuous professional and personal development of staff within the Accounting and Finance team through training and mentorship
  1. Analytical (30% of time):
  • Performing full cycle accounting duties to complete month end reporting including reconciliations and schedules
  • Building monthly financial packages for review by the Finance Director and Managing Director
  • Developing, building and maintaining daily/weekly/monthly/annual cash flow forecasts
  • Assisting in deriving operational budgets and capital budgets for review by departmental leadership and Corbetts Executive Leadership
  • Creating, running and updating dashboards with KPIs as well as additional streams of centralised data
  • Creating and building reporting capabilities around job costing, customer and product profitability and other areas as required
  • Providing ad hoc reports and financial analysis reports as requested
  • Supporting inventory management including detailed analysis such as inventory turns, inventory obsolescence and timely updating of inventory in accounting system(s)
  • Ensuring company financials are up to date with accounting standards
  • Reviewing tax policies and ensuring best tax practices are in place (tax specialty not required but tax resources may be used)
  1. Systems and Processes (30% of time):
  • Automating manual processes currently in use by the Accounting and Finance team and across functional and cross-functional areas
  • Developing, implementing and documenting accounting processes and internal controls to ensure continued compliance and continued best practices
  • Assessing the current accounting system with flow of information to suggest most effective business management accounting system to be implemented or upgraded to centralize data and to produce accurate reports
  • Identifying additional IT systems to assist with data collection and data analysis between departments
  • Ensuring that any changes to systems are implemented in a timely and effective manner
  1. Growth (10% of time):
  • Assisting in the analysis, due diligence and review of new locations, acquisitions or changes to the product delivery models for the business
  • Creating policies and procedures including internal controls to facilitate growth of company and to streamline processes to create efficiencies and accuracy in financial reporting and flow of information within departments

    Will be required to perform other duties as assigned not otherwise captured in this position description

  1. Key Criteria / Requirements

    Education:

  • Professional Accounting Designation required (CIMA, ACA, ACCA)

    Experiences:

  • 3-5+ years experience as an accounting professional with full-cycle industry / operational accounting
  • Strong computer skills including accounting software packages and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Inventory and cost accounting experience considered an asset

    Other Requirements

  • Highly analytical with experience with budgets, forecasting, internal transactions and executive presentations
  • A strong strategic mind capable of seeing the big picture and supporting the Accounting and Finance team towards organizational goals
  • Experience administering Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards
