The APAC Procurement Director is responsible for coordinating source to pay activities and strategies across UPS’ APAC region including across all business units within the region. He/she will be expected to meet all goals and objectives across all areas of spend by overseeing regional sourcing strategies and supporting the execution of the global category strategies at the region level. He/she will be expected to articulate in English the regional strategy and requirements with key regional stakeholders as well as Global Procurement Category Leaders through effective communication and influence. He/she will also issue relevant procurement-related communications (e.g. updated policies & procedures, new supplier contracts, etc.) within the region. He/she is also responsible for the local management of UPS Global Low Cost Country sourcing suppliers along with ensuring an effective global supply chain.

This position oversees a staff consisting of both direct and indirect managers (sub category leads), supervisors and admins within various countries throughout the APAC region. And while supporting talent management processes, he/she will ensure the staff individuals develop and exceed acceptable competency levels in utilizing procurement best practice processes, systems and tools in the region including a Strategic Sourcing Methodology. The APAC Procurement Director reports to the Center of Excellence Senior Manager in the Corporate Office located in Atlanta, GA and indirectly to the Region Controller.

Leads Regional Source to pay initiatives

  • Drives achievement of business unit yearly productivity goals to ensure competitive advantage for UPS.
  • Works with APAC staff to develop and implement cost reduction goals and cost control strategies within districts and across the region.
  • Establishes cost-competitive sources and leads cross-functional teams across commodities to achieve cost savings and drive down cost base for assigned commodity.
  • Monitors results of team in areas of Balanced Scorecard and metrics reporting to achieve annual goals.

Drives Productivity and Cost Reduction Goals

  • Drives achievement of business unit yearly productivity goals to ensure competitive advantage for UPS.
  • Works with APAC staff to develop and implement cost reduction goals and cost control strategies within districts and across the region.
  • Establishes cost-competitive sources and leads cross-functional teams across commodities to achieve cost savings and drive down cost base for assigned commodity.

Manages Stakeholder Expectations

  • Builds and maintains key relationships within corporate and region
  • Serves as the procurement leader within the region, supporting stakeholders with effectively sourcing, contracting and managing key suppliers.
  • Balances and manages region and corporate expectations to ensure organizational effectiveness.
  • Ensures alignment with corporate strategies and policies with regional opportunities.
  • Provides direction to APAC staff to ensure appropriate handing of issues and problems.
  • Conducts and attends regular staff meetings to discuss opportunities and expectations.

Leads and Develops Others

  • Manages resources and people processes (e.g., Quality Performance Review [QPR], Career Development, Succession Planning, Salary Administration, Training, Staffing, etc.) to ensure the day to day administration of processes and formal procedures.
  • Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities (e.g., training, special assignments, projects, etc.) to facilitate individual and team development.
  • Ensures that direct and indirect reports have specific, documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to advance the development of their personal and professional growth.
  • Conducts frequent performance evaluations in a consistent, fair, and objective manner to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement.
  • Holds others accountable to established performance levels to achieve individual and group goals and maintain consistent practices across the organization.
  • Resolves individual and group performance issues in accordance with UPS’s policies and procedures in a timely manner to motivate and foster teamwork.
  • Coaches others and provides on-going feedback and support to improve performance as they take on greater responsibilities.
  • Identifies opportunities to involve others in new and challenging work assignments that advance the skills and capabilities of individuals and the organization.
  • Recommends employees for lateral rotations and promotions to provide them with opportunities to develop new skills and take on more responsibility.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree – Finance, Engineering, or Supply Chain Logistics preferred; MBA - Preferred
  • Procurement Certifications – CPM Preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of procurement experience preferred
  • Strong leadership and communication / negotiation skills, within Asian and US cultures
  • Strong business, technical and financial acumen
  • Able to travel extensively within APAC, and occasionally to the US and Europe
  • Fluent in English (verbal, reading and writing), other Asian languages preferred such as Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese etc.
