The opportunity

We are looking for an Analyst to join our Stamp Taxes Team in London.

This is a great opportunity to apply and develop your legal knowledge in areas such as contract, equity, company law, real property and statutory construction. You will do so by practising as a subject matter expert in a group of taxes concerned exclusively with transactions in UK real estate and securities. There will be a very strong focus on advisory work.
You will work for a wide variety of clients across a wide range of industry sectors, from large multinational companies and private equity fund managers to charities, government bodies
and high net worth families. This variety of work means you'll gain broad and in-depth knowledge of business.

Transactional and advisory work will include due diligence, legal documentation review and structuring of major commercial and residential real estate transactions, M&A, restructuring, fund transitions and IPO transactions. In addition, there will be interaction with HM Revenue and Customs on technical and policy matters.

You will get the close, senior supervision and friendly feel which comes from working in a small team at the same time as the unrivalled opportunities, training and high profile client work which comes from being at a large, successful professional services firm that, amongst other things, has the largest UK Real Estate tax group . You will get early exposure to clients and their legal teams, as well as other internal Deloitte team. We encourage relationship building and excel in on-the-job learning opportunity.

As well as providing coaching in key financial, business, consulting and legal skills, we'll also give you all the support you need to gain valuable professional qualifications. You will be provided with time off and support for the ATT and, if desired, CTA exams.

Role description

From day one, you will have access to senior leadership in the business to help you develop and grow your understanding of the commercial environment we operate in; develop your technical and advisory skills; and develop your knowledge of Deloitte, our clients, industries and markets in a supportive and inclusive environment.

You will be supported in building your professional knowledge, internal and external networks, and be able to contribute to our overall success via team work and the production of high quality analysis and client deliverables.

Responsibilities

• As an Analyst you will be supporting this high performing team by advising on a group of taxes concerned exclusively with transactions in UK land and securities. This includes understanding and explaining the legislation, the operations of complex exemptions and scope of anti-avoidance rules, and transaction and corporate document review.
• The work has an advisory rather than compliance weighting right from day one.
• The types of clients you will deal with will include sectors as diverse as property investment and development, public transactions, initial public offerings, takeovers, financial services and fund management, multinational and owner managed business restructuring, trusts and private clients.

Requirements

• Graduates with a Law Degree or GDL, ideally (but not required) also with the LPC.
