My client is a large Not for Profit organisation based in Newport
Description
The Cost Accountant plays a key role within the organisation, working as a trusted finance partner to a key stakeholder in the business.
Covering a key area of the business, the Cost Accountant is responsible for ensuring that the monthly management accounts are accurate, reconciled, reflect work in progress (WIP) values and accruals.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with the DLO Manager and operational staff to ensure all jobs have accurate standard costs
- Preparation of the monthly budget reports to a strict timetable, together with in depth analysis of production and spend variances
- Monthly WIP, preparation of accruals and reconciliation to the general ledger ensuring that any differences are investigated and resolved in a timely manner
- Maintenance of the standard costing system within the job recording system (URM), ensuring these are accurate and consistent
- Develop a suite of monthly reports that are fit for purpose and allows the business to look strategically at the numbers to make future decisions
- Assist in the preparation of the annual DLO budget
- Review and development of processes and controls relating to production and inventory
- Support the delivery of efficient and effective services and drive value for money in Maintenance Services activities
- Support with the development of forecasting, reporting and system/process enhancements
- Monitoring, analysis and reporting on the impact of cost changes within the business
- Assist with the production of monthly management reporting
- Work closely with the external auditors to assist them with their work on the year-end figures
- Respond quickly to internal requests to provide new or updated costings
- Ad-hoc analysis and reports as and when required
- To prepare and analyse complex financial information to support and inform business decisions
- To review team procedures and processes to deliver improvements in job costing services and customer satisfaction that reflects changing needs of the organisation and service users
- To assist with on-going development and review of job recording/costing software and reporting tools to ensure the maximum benefit is achieved from IS systems
- To contribute to regular and ad hoc business projects which are relevant to or have an impact on the Maintenance Services function
- To undertake any other duties as directed by your Line Manager in furtherance of the organisation objectives, priorities and changing needs
Profile
- Qualified accountant with a CCAB body
- Relevant experience and strong working knowledge of management accounting practices
- Proven experience of working in job costing environment
- Experience of developing and improving reports
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills
- Experience of working as part of an operational team
- Strong spreadsheet skills, preferably MS Excel, and high level of competence in the use of other IT systems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Proven influencing skills
- Ability to work under pressure to meet strict deadlines and changing priorities
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work on own initiative and also as an active team player
Job Offer
Basic Salary of £30,000 - £34,000
