Michael Page Finance are pleased to be partnering with a reputable education institution based near St. Austell (15 minute drive) to appoint an interim Bursar in to a newly created position. This role will initially be on a 4 month contract, however there is a possibility of this role going permanent. Immediate availability is preferable.

Description

The Bursar is responsible for managing the strategy and operation of the business functions of the organisation, including financial management, health and safety, human resources, compliance and administration.

They will advise on and implement the day-to-day support that enables the organisation to operate effectively and efficiently, and that allows other members of the senior leadership team to focus on teaching and learning.

  • Be responsible for line-managing support staff, including carrying out long-term resource planning and managing recruitment, appraisal and professional development.
  • Under the direction of the Principal, lead on all financial matters in the organisation, to ensure the organisation's successful financial performance and to ensure financial decisions are clearly linked to the organisation's strategic goals.
  • As a member of the extended leadership team (ELT), attend all leadership team meetings and report to Drive Team (governors) where appropriate.
  • Implement academy-wide changes and allocate resources in line with the academy improvement plan, putting policies and procedures in place and communicating them to staff.
  • Take all decisions in line with the vision and values of the organisation, and encourage others to do the same.
  • Manage all Finance, HR, Health and Safety, Compliance and Administration for the organisation.

Profile

The ideal candidate for the Interim Bursar position will have:

  • An accounting qualification
  • (OR) Qualified by experience with demonstrable experience in a similar role.
  • A degree - ideally in accountancy, business management or a related discipline
  • Successful leadership and management experience in a education (desirable)
  • Involvement in self-evaluation and improvement planning
  • Line management experience
  • Experience of change management
  • Contributing to staff development
  • Experience of Human Resources
