The position will be responsible for all Finance and Operation tasks related to the Harvard Global (HG) entities in India. The role will be responsible for all local statutory, legal, employment, tax, treasury, audit and control functions, ensuring all activities are compliant based on local regulations and Harvard Global policies. The role will also manage the setup of systems and documentation to implement policies and corporate governance. The individual will have a key role in Budgeting, Planning and Forecasting for the entities. This role will provide financial and operational support to the teams that manage the academic programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
Finance:
- Oversee the management of external accountants, tax advisors, and auditors.
- Oversee the yearly statutory financial audit; liaise with the HG US Finance team and local accountants to approve.
- Oversee Accounts Payable and ensure key performance indicators for clients are met.
- Establish and maintain procurement policies across all offices based on HG policies.
- Ensure the accurate reporting of financial activities and incorporation in the local general ledger and related financial modules.
- Provide analysis of and reporting on variances from budgets.
- Work effectively with HG US staff, local HG entities’ employees, and external partners to ensure all tax and compliance reporting is provided timely and accurately
- Assist with creation and updating of accounting policies and procedures.
- Maintain a forecast of cash requirements and projected cash balances.
- Manage the timely analysis and reconciliation of accounts as assigned. Accurately process all GL postings and make adjustments where required; proactively follow up on required adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with direct and indirect tax laws, including Transfer Pricing laws, and other regulations. Manage requirements such as filing returns, advance tax, assessment proceedings, and other documentation with the support of third party consultants where appropriate.
- Oversee Accounts Receivable, including collection from debtors, payment of invoices, working capital forecasts, and asset management.
Operations:
- Oversee the development and maintenance of streamlined business processes and workflows that ensure appropriate controls, maintain legal separation between Harvard entities, and comply with India and U.S. laws and regulations.
- Oversee the coordination of all Harvard Global operational functions in India.
- Ensure compliance with corporate laws and manage requirements such as filing annual returns, forms, etc.
- Attend board and general meetings in coordination and as supported by third party consultants where appropriate.
- Consult proactively and consistently with Harvard Global and Harvard University offices, such as the Office of the General Counsel, Office of Sponsored Programs, Alumni and Development Services, and Office of Treasury Management, as well as external counsel.
- Oversee the review and administration of all grants, service agreements, leases, Memorandums of Understanding, and other contractual agreements for local programs, vendors, and HG stakeholders to ensure all agreements adhere to Harvard and Indian policies and regulations.
- Coordinate the signing of agreements by HG India Board of Directors or execute agreements based on the role’s designated signing authority.
HR:
- Support hiring processes, including but not limited to recruitment, background screenings, on boarding, and etc.
- Facilitate benefits enrollment processes and escalations.
- Maintain adequate personnel records based on HG HR policies and local legal requirements.
- Ensure compliance with local employment regulations.
Client Management:
- Build and maintain effective, collaborative, and consultative relationships with stakeholders and clients throughout the Harvard Global entities in India and Harvard University.
- Build and maintain an excellent reputation for HG services and infrastructure through regular outreach, responsiveness to client needs, and efficient and effective services.
- Work closely with the local programmatic staff and HG entities’ leadership to develop the India operations in both financial and operational aspects.
- Provide consistent and clear guidance to clients on HG policies and procedures.
- Supports HG Clients in country as requested by HG US.
General:
- Special projects as assigned
- International travel 1-2 times per year; possible domestic travel as required
Basic Qualifications:
- Degree in finance or accounting. ACCA / CA / ICWA
- Must have 3+ years of accounting experience, as well as 2+ years of management experience preferred.
- Strong customer service orientation. Exceptional ability to bridge gaps and problem-solve to reach flexible operational solutions that address the needs of diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in overseeing accounting, advisory, audit, tax and other regulatory compliances and broad knowledge of these regulations; experience working with advisory vendors and evaluating various sources of guidance.
- Experience working with various ERP systems such as Oracle and Tally ERP 9.
Additional Qualifications:
- A Chartered Accountant or Cost Accountant with experience in working for a multinational organization or an Indian organization with international operations.
- Strong knowledge of Indian laws and regulations as related to general finance, operations, and HR.
- Excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
- Have the ability to prioritize tasks in order to meet or exceed deadlines, as well as possessing the capabilities to manage several tasks simultaneously.
