Southend on Sea Borough Council is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Finance Analyst to join them on a six-month temporary contract due to an exciting new contract.
The purpose of this position is to help with setting up and embedding new monthly reporting procedures and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- To carry out monthly monitoring against the budget on a number of services (both revenue and capital) and to investigate and report variations to the appropriate person in a timely manner
- To undertake the closing of capital and revenue accounts at the year-end
- Assist the Accountants in the preparation and publication of the final accounts including producing working papers in readiness for the regularity audit
- To provide assistance as required with the preparation and presentation of the annual budget
- To undertake areas of work carried out for the Council as a whole and not specifically allocated to Directorates, such as capital and fixed assets, treasury management, banking, technical, control, reconciliations, VAT and maintenance of financial systems
- To package and present information for use by both financial and non-financial stakeholders so that they can then base their decision making on solid financial advice
Candidate Requirements:
- The ideal candidate will be part-qualified of one of the main accountancy bodies or qualified by their experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Ideally will be familiar with the financial arrangements relating to services provided by local authorities
The Package:
This is a full time post available for a mid-September start. The role is needed for 6 months initially, and salary is negotiable dependent on experience.
