Job Title: Payroll Manager (Sole role) Location: Head Office, Enfield Salary: £35,000+

Working Hours: ave 40hpw

The Stephen James Group is an authorised BMW and MINI car dealership based in London and Kent with 4 BMW and 3 MINI dealerships serving Enfield, Bromley, Ruxley and Woolwich. In 2018 it opened a Premium Used Car Centre in Blackheath and set up the first BMW Urban Store in Bluewater.

What you’ll be doing

As the Payroll Manager (on a sole basis), reporting to the Group Financial Director, you will have primary responsibility for the Payroll 'end to end’ and manage the third party provider. The Payroll Manager must be dedicated and industrious, committed to accuracy in all transactions when handling all payroll processing duties and, you will provide assistance to both human resources and accounting when necessary. You will be a responsible professional who cares about our employee’s satisfaction.

Role responsibilities - including but not limited to

  • Payroll processing for a total of over 440+ staff processed on a monthly basis from start to finish and further involvement with micro payrolls
  • To generate bonus and commission calculations directly from the Accounts and the Accounting Systems
  • All monthly reporting for Finance and HR utilising spreadsheets
  • To maintain the general ledger with regard to payroll transactions and to ensure payroll journals are created, reviewed and inputted to the Financial system
  • Ensure that the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions, leavers and terminations are processed accurate and timely
  • Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers
  • Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, holiday accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.)
  • Prepare detailed commentaries around payroll variances
  • Prepare information required by various third party including pension returns, attachment of earnings and salary sacrifice schemes
  • To manage the payplans for the business
  • Statutory payment calculations and query resolution
  • Project improvements and implementation of new legislation
  • Year End management of P11d's and P60's
  • Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests
  • Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures
  • Maintains payroll information by designing systems; directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data
  • Setting up and closing of PAYE schemes
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

Who you need to be

  • Currently working in a Payroll Manager position
  • Excellent at maths
  • Experienced with Freedom & SAGE payroll system software - preferred
  • Have good IT skills including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel to a high level to include VLOOKUP and Pivot tables
  • Have an up to date knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • You must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment
  • You must enjoy working as part of a team and also recognise individual responsibility to contribute to the performance and success of the HR and Accounts team. There should also be an understanding of the needs of others and a willingness to help and adopt a flexible approach

Your experience: You will have a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in human resources, payroll or accounting for a corporation and you will be CIPP qualified. You will have a full and valid clean UK Driving Licence and be over 21 for insurance.
