Financial Accountant

The Financial Accountant position is a core finance role based in the Finance Department of a Leading Government Department in London.

Description

The role of the Financial Accountant will include:

• Providing support to the Financial Controller in the preparation of the Core Department Accounts.
  
• Liaising with internal and external auditors to ensure all queries are dealt with promptly.
  
• The coordination and review of the reconciliation of the balance sheet and reconciling some key balance sheet accounts, including VAT and payroll control accounts.
• All VAT matters including provision of advice, reviewing the production of quarterly VAT returns and resolving any issues.
• Reviewing and processing journals into the financial system.
• Leading on all banking issues including the timely and accurate production of the Group monthly cash flow forecasts and monitoring performance against this.
• Supporting the Financial Controller in managing the shared service provider including monitoring of KPIs etc.
• Providing system support to users.
• Deputising for the System Accountant and Financial Controller

Profile

Essential Requirements:

• Newly or part qualified accountant

• Development and delivery of process improvements

• Advanced Excel skills

• Demonstrable attention to detail

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence others

• Excellent project management skills

• Good understanding of VAT

Desirable:

• Previous experience of being an "expert" user of a financial system

• Demonstrable staff leadership skills

• Experience of producing Accounts (particularly helpful if within Central Government)

• Knowledge of VAT in central government

• Knowledge and experience of the FReM, Consolidated Budgeting Guidance (CBG), Managing Public Money and the Treasury's supply estimates manual

Job Offer

The Financial Accountant Remuneration Package is £30k to £40,000.

Location: London and may involve some UK and international travel.

Annual Leave: 26.5 days paid leave plus 9 days public and privilege holidays, rising to 31.5 days after 5 years.
