Job Purpose:

This post will provide support and assistance to the Management Accountant with all aspects of financial control.

This is a generic role; the postholder will work in either the Capital and Repairs team or the Statutory Accounts team to deliver a high quality accounting function for Tower Hamlets Homes and its Executive Management Team, Board and Committees.

Key Accountabilities:

1. To support the work of the Management Accountant in the provision of excellent financial services that enhances the service delivery in Tower Hamlets Homes.

2. Work with service managers to understand their business functions and the key financial risks.

3. To work with budget managers in monitoring budgets and projecting the year end position.

4. To assist budget managers to upload budget monitoring information into Agresso.

5. To assist in the preparation of management accounts by providing variance analyses and other information to the Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Head of Finance.

6. To assist in the annual budget setting process by liaising with budget managers and costing any savings or growth proposals.

7. To assist in the consolidation of the budget by providing key financial and non-financial information to the Management Accountant, Finance Manager or Head of Finance.

8. To support the closing of accounts process, including ensuring the preparation of good quality working papers and supporting documentation.

9. To assist the Management Accountant to review authority to recruit forms to ensure there is adequate budgetary provision and draft financial comments accordingly.

10. Provide training and support to budget managers and others on the use of Agresso.

11. Provide appropriate support the across the Finance team as directed by the Finance Manager.

Person specification:

Education and Experience

  • CCAB or AAT part qualified and actively seeking qualification.
  • High level of numeracy and literacy
  • High level of computer literacy, including Excel
  • Experience of budget monitoring
  • Experience of completing reconciliations
  • Experience of working with non-finance staff and managers
  • Experience of the year-end close process
  • Preparing and posting journals

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of local authority Housing Finance.
