- Optimize the company's financial performance and strategic position
- Take overall control of the company's accounting function
- Has overall control and responsibility for all financial aspects of company strategy and is expected to analyze figures and implement recommendations based on these findings, with the most profitable outcomes
- Contribute fully to the development of company strategy across all areas of the business, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers
- Seek out methods and practices to minimize financial risk
- Responsible for cash flow to meet company's obligations
- Responsible on alerting management on P&L and guidance on any deviation
- Provide input to ensure profitability of company
- Supervise the preparation of various financial statements and reports as required by line managers and senior management
- Assists in the development and implementation of goals, policies, priorities, and procedures relating to financial management, budget, accounting, and/or payroll
- Update and implement financial policies and procedures
- Directs the installation and maintenance of new accounting, timekeeping, payroll, inventory, property, and other related procedures and controls
- Directs the maintenance of general and subsidiary ledgers, accounts receivable, revenue distribution, depreciation, cost, property, and operating expenses, and insurance records
- Directs and participates in cost analyses and rate studies
- Prepares statements and reports of estimated future costs and revenues
- Directs internal audits involving review of accounting and administrative controls
- Establishes system controls for new financial systems and develops procedures to improve existing systems
- Ensure corporate budgeting processes are carried out and reviewed
- Ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are met
- Coordinates preparation of external audit materials and external financial reporting
- Develop the organization's funding base to secure present and future service delivery
- Liaise and negotiate, as appropriate, with the funding authority and other funding sources on future service delivery initiatives and developments in conjunction with the operations Manager
- Ensure that all finances are properly administered and monitored, including credit control
- Advise on the proper allocation of resources
- Ensure that appropriate financial regulations and controls are in place and in use at all times
- Make regular reports on income, expenditure and any variations from budgets
- Ensure that all financial reporting obligations are within the budget lines for the fiscal year
- Act as cheque signatory for and authorize expenditure up to limits as agreed by company
- Lead & develop the finance team
- Provide internal/external training both orally and in writing on accounting systems, procedures and practices
- Review various reports, forecasts, and budgets including: monthly and annual forecasts; statutory & management reports; as well as other financial reports when and as needed
- Interprets various accounting data, analyzes reports and recommends and/or initiates actions to be taken
- Prepares and/or directs the preparation of special statistical reports, detailed cost accounting information, surveys or analyses of a complex and difficult nature for management
- Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties including customers and advisors
