The charity is now looking to recruit a high calibre, qualified Financial Accountant to act as the lead technical accountant for the organisations group entities.
Client Details
The UK's leading service charity providing care and support to serving members of the Armed Forces, veterans of all ages and their families; and is the Nation's custodian of Remembrance. The Finance Function is undertaking changes to ensure that it is well equipped to support delivery of the organisations ambitious new five year strategy
Description
- Prepare the organisations annual consolidated statutory financial statements, including the results of all funds, trusts, membership counties, over 2,300 Branches and all subsidiary undertakings for auditing, publishing and presenting to the Board of Trustees and the organisations Annual Conference
- To liaise with the Legion's internal and external auditors, providing information and explanations as required
- To assist with the production of all statutory returns, including all tax returns
- To prepare reconciliations for some of the more complex areas of the Legion's accounts, ensuring that the data is accurate and resolving any discrepancies. Highlight and initiate any process changes identified from the reconciliation process to prevent a recurrence.
- To co-ordinate and oversee the month end process, ensuring that tasks, responsibilities and deadlines are clearly communicated and raising any issues to Finance Heads of Department as appropriate
- To manage the Restricted Funds Accountant, ensuring that proper controls and procedures are in place to account for restricted funds in accordance withtheCharitiesSORP and underlying trust documents. To support the Restricted Funds Accountant to undertake the accounting tasks required for the Branch Property Trusts project.
- To monitor compliance with departmental policies and procedures and develop new policies and procedures as requested by the Head of Financial Accounts, ensuring that they meet the needs of the Group both now and in the future
- Prepare returns for VAT and other taxes. Ensure maximum tax recovery in consultation with the charities VAT advisors.
- To be responsible for the Fixed Asset register and ensure that it contains an accurate record of the Legion's fixed assets.
Profile
Experience of producing group consolidated statutory accounts, involving a number of statutory entities
Experience with financial year end processes including liaising with auditors.
