The Company
Sapientia Education Trust (SET) is an expanding multi–academy trust with both primary and secondary schools in Norfolk and Suffolk.? The finance operation that supports these schools is based at Wymondham College.

Due to our continuing growth we are now seeking to appoint a Finance Director to the lead the finance function and add capacity to the Trust Central Leadership Team.

The post offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and enthusiastic professional to join a growing multi–academy trust.? The post holder will be required to drive change within the finance operation of the Trust bringing greater efficiency in the way the Trust carries out its business.? He/she will be expected to visit schools within the Trust and develop a good working knowledge of those schools and how they serve their communities.

Trust Finance Director Job Specification
The Finance Director (FD) is responsible to the Chief Operating Officer (COO) for the management of the SET accounting systems and finance office and the delivery of financial services to the SET, ensuring full compliance with statutory regulations and the Academies Finance Handbook. Specifically he/she will hold accountability for the financial aspects of schools joining SET In conjunction with the COO, the FD will plan, develop and implement fiscal policies and strategies, in accordance with the SET priorities, in order to improve the overall effectiveness of SET financial management.

A non–exhaustive list of specific responsibilities for the role is below and you will be required to undertake other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.

Ensure the SET is compliant with all legal requirements in respect of all accounting processes and practices, public sector finances, HMRC regulations and the Academies Finance Handbook;
Have overall responsibility for the production of the annual accounts for audit;
Provide sound financial advice to the COO and Trust Board an all financial matters, in order to improve performance and opportunities;
Provide advice and support to all SET schools staff on financial and budgetary matters ensuring that they meet legal requirements and represents good practice;
Ensure the production of monthly management accounts for SET schools and highlight anomalies and trends that may affect budget planning promptly;
Ensure the reconciliation of all SET schools control accounts monthly, review other accounts and calculate monthly journals;
Ensure that the production of reports and accounts for sub–accounts and additional accounts as required;
Ensure that in–year budget revisions are processed accurately and promptly;
Oversee the setting the annual budget at each SET school;
Ensure all statutory and non–statutory returns for internal and external use are completed;
Be responsible for the management of the recovery of bad debts across all schools within the MAT. In particular this involves the management of boarding fee bad debts at Wymondham College which must follow a specific process in accordance with the Pupil Registration Regulations 2006 (as amended);
Attend Board sub–committee meetings and the main Board meetings (as required);
Prepare reports for Board sub–committees and the main Board meetings as required;
To successfully manage the Finance Team;
Implement operational best practice;
Manage the internal and external audits process; ;
Support the COO in monitoring and managing the GAG and LACSEG settlement and allocation to schools, making recommendations on investment of surplus balances;
Produce and distribute management and statutory accounts;
Support the COO in the review of budgets, monitoring expenditure;
The post holder shall undertake other duties and responsibilities as the line manager may reasonably require.

Strong problem solving skills and the ability to make decisions based on accurate and appropriate analysis;
Proven track record of making and implementing essential changes;
Be able to balance strategy with operations.

The qualifications and experience required of the Finance Director are:

Be ACCA (or equivalent) qualified;
A degree (preferred) or equivalent level of knowledge and understanding gained by experience as an accounting professional, Have strong commercial and business awareness;
Hold over five years? experience in a progressive finance leadership role;
Detailed knowledge of public finances, procedures, practice and regulations;
Experience of managing a computerised data system and handling large amounts of complex financial data;
Extensive experience in budget management and forecasting;
