Our clients are looking for an economist with experience in applying economics in a regulatory environment or in a commercial environment. You will work within a multifunctional team. The role will involve the provision of economic advice and analysis on regulatory and competition issues and the drafting of consultation papers. You can expect to manage a range of projects. Responsibilities will include: · As a key project team member, providing concise, practical and strategic economic advice to inform and guide a number of concurrent projects in the Division; · Contributing to the design of contact award processes, to optimise the competition outcomes; · Providing economic advice on regulatory matters and on other projects within the Division as required; · Drafting elements of public consultations and other documents; In particular, the Economist will be responsible for the ‘Regulatory Impact Assessments' sections of consultations; · Preparing Terms of Reference for any external economic consultancy and reviewing as appropriate; · Reviewing documentation prepared within the Division and/or by external consultants and identifying any economic weaknesses and/or necessary changes; · Supporting the strategic planning process by collecting and analysing data on key trends in the Telecoms sector, and providing insights from these data sources; · Advising on market research/survey projects (both quantitative and qualitative); These are generally undertaken as part market monitoring activities or to support regulatory intervention; · Providing analysis and input on any proposed National or EC legislation impacting Market Framework's responsibilities; and · Contributing to organisation-level economic/regulatory policy issues, primarily by participating in cross-Divisional Economist meetings led by the Senior Advisor, Economics, Policy and Research. Qualifications & Experience: · Degree in Economics or a closely related discipline; A Masters or PHD would be an advantage · At least 3 years' experience in an economic analysis role, in a multidisciplinary environment; · Excellent qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities, coupled with the ability to make reasoned judgements based on available information; · Excellent conceptual and problem solving skills with the ability to apply new approaches; · Ability to draft documentation in a rational, evidence-based, clear and concise manner; · Strong verbal communications e.g. to express key economic concerns or new ideas clearly; · Proven track record of delivering complex projects, in an individual and team capacity.
