The Finance Manager will be the key link between the UK and Australian businesses whilst simultaneously ensuring a smooth month end process. The successful candidate will be able to business partner with the Managing Director of Australia as well as be responsible for putting the budget together for 2018/2019

My client is a global leader in the publishing sector, listed on the LSE. Despite being a very large business they maintain a family style environment where each member of the team feels valued and supported.


  • Review, compile and issue monthly management accounts
  • Support budgeting and re-forecasting to group timetables
  • Provide P&L and Balance Sheet trends analysis
  • Oversee business partnering support of the clients shared service centres
  • Review the Australian GST returns
  • Provide Treasury Management for Australia and cashflow forecasting
  • Review month-end deliverables of your direct reports
  • Develop financial management mechanisms that minimise financial risk
  • Provide analysis on title sales, title profitability and title post mortem
  • Prepare the interim and year end consolidation adjustments
  • Preparation of interim and year-end reporting packs and schedules

  • Preparation of Group consolidated interim and year-end financial statements
  • Assist the HoGF with preparation of the Annual Report
  • Preparation of the subsidiaries' financial statements, ensuring that transactions are accounted for in the appropriate entity
  • Preparation of annual pension scheme accounts of a subsidiary


Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)

Proactive and motivated, able to show initiative and work independently

Strong technical grounding in UK GAAP and IFRS

Finance controls review and assessment experience

Thorough knowledge of consolidation and group accounts for international PLCs

An understanding of tax

Publishing or media experience

Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, and ability to build relationships quickly at all levels and to present financial information in a manner that can be understood by all recipients

Fast and accurate, strong attention to detail

Ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines

Strong technical, analytical and judgement skills

Advanced Excel skills
