Job Description

–Well established, growing organization in downtown Denver seeks professional, detail–oriented payroll manager.

Key Responsibilities:
–Direct weekly and bi–weekly payroll processing for multi–state, union and non–union decentralized operations. From time clock set–up, entry, approval to final payments, tax filing, remittance and various other special payments.
–Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws. In addition, compliance with Canadian provincial statutory regulations.
Prepares weekly, monthly, quarterly and year–end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.) for management.
–Provides general ledger support, labor distribution reporting, and assists in producing labor reporting to operations.

–Effectively lead the payroll team to respond to payroll related inquires, providing guidance on prevailing laws governing payroll and income taxes, employee benefits, garnishments and other statutory pay and related entitlements.
–Responsible for the coordination efforts between payroll, benefits, HRIS, accounting and finance to ensure proper flow and maintenance of payroll related data.

Key Accountabilities
– Manage and guarantee accurate weekly and biweekly disbursement of multi–state and international payrolls.

–Coordinate and ensure the preparation of all payroll related weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual tax returns. Audit W–4s, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc.

–Ensure compliance with all applicable state, provincial and federal wage and tax laws and internal and external audit procedures.

–Ensure all local, and state tax accounts are proactively established and appropriately maintained.

–Serve as liaison between payroll other HR teams, departments and locations.

–Manage regular preparation of relevant and requested reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year–end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, tax deductions, benefit deductions, union reports, etc.)

–Define and document policies, procedures and controls related to payroll operations to streamline and automate. Continually review and implement changes in methods or processes to achieve maximum efficiency and accuracy leading to best–practice operation.

–Lead and develop payroll team to drive results and cultural alignment. Provide guidance to payroll team to effectively troubleshoot payroll related issues.

–Interact and build relationships with employees, managers and vendors to identify and resolve issues impacting the payroll process.

– Manage payroll system software upgrades and testing.

–Work as a hands–on manager with ownership and leadership over daily payroll operations.

–Prepare, communicate and educate internal customers and team on payroll practices.

Skills & Experience

–Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related business degree; or equivalent experience.

– Minimum of 5 years' experience in payroll with multi–state, multi–location, high volume complex pay components for US, Puerto Rico, and Canada.

–Minimum of 3 years' experience in a leadership role with responsibility of directing and developing the work of others.

–Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) Certification is highly preferred.

Computer/Technology Requirements:

–Workday implementation experience and Workday system experience preferred

–ADP experience – Demonstrated proficiency at an Expert User level (ADP Vantage and eTime experience is a plus)

–Microsoft Office Suite – Advanced Excel skills to including pivot table, v–look up, and some linking skills – Intermediate level Word, Access and Outlook. Skills should at least include the ability to Mail Merge in Word, create and manipulate databases in Access and within Outlook knowing how to create address books and set up auto–responders, etc.

–Ability and desire to easily learn and navigate new technology, development tools or software.

Payroll Experiences:

–Prior experience in optimizing payroll or other related processes is required.

–Solid understanding and working knowledge of federal/state payroll regulations and requirements as well as payroll best practices and HR policies.

– Confidentiality and demonstrated high integrity around handling sensitive HR, payroll and company information.
Other Skills:?? Keen attention to details, process execution and follow–through. The ability to analyze and resolve problems in a logical and effective manner, with a passion for accuracy.

–Demonstrated ability to deliver results and make decisions while juggling multiple and changing priorities in a fast–paced environment. Excellent planning, organizational and project management skills.

–Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate; to include proper spelling, grammar and punctuation with the ability to respectfully respond to requests and inquiries from employees at all levels in all forms of communication (i.e. electronic, telephone and in person). Demonstrated ability to build processes, seek, evaluate and implement best practices.??

Must haves:
– Signing off on minimum of $4M in payroll
– Canadian Experience
– Leadership Experience (collaborative with HRIS & Benefits too)
– Understands and knows Payroll Auditing practice
