If you have completed, or are soon to complete your university degree then we are sure you will have thought a lot about your next step and, as you are looking at our website, you have probably already decided Accountancy is for you.

Training to become a Chartered Accountant is both rewarding and challenging and can open up a whole host of opportunities for you. At Thomas Westcott we are looking to train and develop graduates who could be our future partners and leaders. Many of our senior managers and partners started their career as a trainee with us and have stayed with us throughout their working life. Unlike so many larger firms, we do not take on dozens of graduates only to ship them off at the end of their training to try to find work elsewhere. We select the best candidates who show drive, ambition and individuality and we give them high levels of support and mentoring throughout their training so that they can be the best at what they do and want to stay with us to build their career as a Chartered Accountant.

As a graduate trainee you would normally join us in September and will embark on a three year training program. Your structured training will take place at Reed Business School in the form of residential courses. The relaxed atmosphere at Reed allows you to focus on preparing for and, more importantly, passing exams. Studying residentially at Reed enables you to avoid the demands of day to day chores and a daily commute, but instead use the valuable time saved for additional study, relaxation or socialising with other students on your course. We will fund your training and provide you with paid study leave to attend the courses so you will be earning while you are learning.

Back in the office you will also get support from more experienced staff and partners and will work on client assignments from the start, such as preparing financial statements for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders, auditing financial statements and tax compliance work to mention just a few. You will have the opportunity to visit clients’ premises to carry out some of your work and your work will be a mixture of team work and projects undertaken individually. All our offices are different and are full of different characters, but whichever office you work at you will be sure to find a friendly and supportive team that you will quickly integrate with and you will very soon feel part of the Thomas Westcott family.

Like what you have read so far?

So far, we have told you what we can offer you, in return we expect you to be hard working, ambitious and dedicated to this career path. You will need to have an analytical and methodical approach to your work and be able to apply both common sense and technical skills to different assignments.

You will have already achieved, or expect to achieve a minimum 2.1 degree in a relevant discipline and this will be supported by 3 A levels (1A, 2B’s or above) or equivalent.

Or, for a non graduate entry route, you must have or expect to achieve 3 A levels at grade A (or above) or equivalent.

If this is you then we would love to hear from you. To apply for a Trainee Chartered Accountant position please complete our application form. This is your chance to tell us why you would be perfect for Thomas Westcott. Let us know about your work experience and skills plus your academic achievements and don't forget to tell us which offices you would be interested in working at.
