The Project Accountant will be working as part of a team looking at a £60m capital business transformation programme, tracking business cases and providing sound analysis to support the project and ensure it's delivered in a timely and accurate fashion.

Description

The Project Accountant will form part of the FP&A and Projects team, and reports to Senior Project Accountant. As a key stakeholder of the role there will also be a dotted reporting line to the Finance Manager, close links to Head of Corporate and Cross Business Costs, and IT PMO.

The main responsibilities of the Project Accountant include:

  • Work with the Finance Manager and Business Unit, to support the management and accounting of the project and Security Transformation Programmes.
  • Support the construction of business cases including the review and agreement of the accounting treatment with the relevant stakeholders
  • Provide analysis and support to monitor spend, supporting the review of proposed spend via the weekly and quarterly capex boards, ensuring that the governance processes are being followed and appropriate financial controls are in place.
  • Highlight, challenge and as necessary escalate matters of a financial concern. Prepare a capex & opex forecasts for the Transformation Programmes and Capex Portfolio in conjunction with the project and programme managers, Finance Manager and IT PMO, providing guidance on the financial year out-turn and spend at risk of falling into the next financial year.
  • Provide guidance to PM's regarding the effective use of Oracle Project Accounting Module, monitor capital expenditure versus approved budgets, obtain operational and financial updates on a regular basis from the Business Unit and escalate matters of concern. Ensure projects are appropriately closed and capitalised on a timely basis.
  • Support the Capital Programmes and Project team during the month end capital reporting process by collating value-add, robust and meaningful commentary, as required, on programme performance from the project teams.

    Profile

    The role would suit a fully qualified accountant with strong system skills ideally including experience of Oracle applications.

    • Expert Excel and Microsoft office skills are required.
    • Experience of project accounting and management accounting and good analytical skills are of significant use to this position

    • Good interpersonal skills - ability to develop and maintain good relationships across the business whilst still enforcing appropriate financial controls and challenge; ability to challenge and influence.

    Tenacity and strong communication skills and confidence to work closely with and support Senior Management will need to be demonstrated at interview, as well as the ability to work under pressure, be flexible and manage deliverables to meet tight timescales.
